Hi all,

I'm new here. Just stumbled on this forum last night when I was looking for info on the 320i Facelift model (E46).

It's been a dream of mine to drive my own 6 cylinder beemer. Drove dad's then 320i (E21-Manual) and later 323i (E30-Manual). Beautiful 6 cylinders on a 2 litres and 2.3 litres engine!!

Maybe this is not the place to ask this in here, but anybody got any feelings about the 6 cyliner models vs the 4 cylinder models? Would buying 4 cylinder models be too much of a compromise if I was looking for the 6s?

Anyways, just thought I'd say hi...

Cheers,

hi, welcome! :)

6 cylinders are definitely smoother, and also more powerful, but expensive too. 1 cent money 1 cent product.

Welcome to the forum!!

I agree on the 6-potter! :)

CricketWee,

I would go for the 6 pot, much more options in terms of mods and smoothness.

Join us for the meetup please! Perhaps..you could be swayed.. .*evil look*

Cheers!

Alot of bros here with the 4 pot valvetronics also happy with their ride. You may wish to test drive both before deciding. As RB said, the 6 pot will cost more but if u are buying used, the price gap is narrowed.

Welcome to the forum, CricketWee.

Given the narrowing absolute price differentials between the 4-pot and the 6-pot, it makes more sense to go with the 6-pot for secondary markets. This is especially if you wanna mod.

Do join us for the meetup on Sunday, and seek the opinions amongst the brothers here.

hihi welcome. 6 pots all the way !

So what mods have your father done so far ?

First: Welcome, Hello

Second: 6 Pot...if you willing to fork out more dough. The returns are both tangible and intangible. I hope to see you soon on Sun and you can catch both models there.

Cheers

6-potter man.. works wonders.. but the 4 is not bad too..

oh yea.. welcome too .. like wat the rest of the bros sed, i agree.. come down for the meet up.. then you can see the diff of cars and also get some really good advise frm them .

Hi guys,

Thanx for making me feel so welcome! ;)

Yeah, thought most would feel the same as I do (6 pot are the way to go). It's just that I see heaps and heaps of 4 pots our there and it just got me wondering. Test drove a 318i (facelift) model the other day. I was quite impressed with the response. Hence the question. Still looking for the perfect 320i still though.

Abt mods, well... none in mind so far, gotta drive the newer beemers before deciding what else needs to be moded. They are pretty good stocked already...

E46: Dad didn't do much with the car. He was more of a Merc man himself...

Will definitely see you guys around at the GTGs. I live close by.

Cheers,

Well you do see a lot more 318s on the market compared to the 320s by virtue of the greater numbers on the roads. The 318 outsells the 320 any day. That is the way the singapore market works. Biggest body with the smallest engine always sells the best. Witness the Camry 2.0, E200, 520......

The taxation system here works against the larger CC cars combined with the heavy traffic. So if you can find a pristine 320i with M54 engine then i should say go for it.

Cheers
