A former police deputy superintendent has been sentenced to jail for abetting the obstruction of justice.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, Zhu Yao Ming was sentenced to 6 months' jail after he posted a forum thread looking for a person to take the rap on his behalf for a speeding offence.
The person who is willing to take the rap on his behalf will in turn get money for incurring Zhu's offence points.
He posted: "If I drive my cousin car, and now I was captured by the camera for speeding, is it possible that I ask my friend to sub in, coz I do not want to incur offence points. Ask my friend to take over by offering him $300, but he want $400, is it too expensive?"
Zhu was flamed on the same thread for buying his way out of the offence. Netizens advised him to accept the offence himself while others scolded him for being irresponsible and gutless.
"If you speed then prepare to accept the consequences," said nuaxtreme.
Others reminded him that there was no point in finding a scapegoat because the traffic camera had already captured in image, the vehicle's plate number and the driver.
The thread was also forwarded to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau by a netizen.
Within 11 hours of his first post, Zhu retracted his statement and decided to admit to the offence and pay the fine.
