ICE Help - Need LCD screen advice for E39

Hi

Let me share with you my experience. I just installed a DVD changer+VDO+LCD screen using the RF, its the worst possible method of connecting, but i had no choice, the sound quality is very poor and the RF keeps changing bc the Radio signal tends to be stronger. (If you want to know what it sound like just listen to class 95 on 94.0).

Mine is a e38 with DSP so the installer was not keen on connecting using the RCA method i believe they use some pre amp to connect, this is the method that you should use.

BTW the installer is quite reputable (i think, they even have a website!). Pretty disappointed with whole setup.

Be warned that RF is NOT a viable option. Its however the easier option.

cheers

Hi Boris,

Some people in the US selling a black fabric carrier of sort to be hitched behind each headrest. Each carrier will be able to hold a portable DVD player. That will fulfil your desire to have 2 TV screens. The good thing abt that is you can always unhitch and keep your DVD player in the boot if you park in a unsafe place.

If cost of no issue, why not pay $5k for a GPS as the e39 GPS comes with TV :)

2 champion proposals!

Do you have the website link for the carrier?

GPS Screen is really cool cos got original look but problem is the kids wouldnt be able to see from their seats. Think if at all possible, will explore whether there is a E39 verison of what is offered for the X5 and E65.

I think the last i checked (a month back) i was told that the GPS is 7k w/o installation

Diablo,

Thank you for the advice. :) Guess you encountered the same problem I had. With bmw's equipped with DSP, the audio shops are not able/keen to use the existing cd stacker and convert it into a VCD player. Thus I had to use the same DVD via RF route. However, I must say that the installation done by Tye (Tony and Albert) is excellent. I had a similar set up in my previous car (peugeot 307SW with stock headunit) and the install was horrible. The sound was bad and there was constant noise from 'nearby' radio channels. This one has been almost totally silent by comparison. On top of that, the install of the custom made screen bracket is superb. Same install as on the airport car service that you get if you go to PML Arang and they send you to the airport in their airport service E39.

I used to use Tye in the mid 90s but went to try others with the last 2-3 car stereo installs that I have done. Am now convinced that Tye is the best when it comes to keeping things as stock looking as possible. Am certain that they are not the best when it comes to quality of sound and certainly, they are not cheap but they really take good care of the existing parts in the car when they install and the look is as factory original as possible. Am a really happy camper with this work that they did on the E39 :inlove: :inlove:

The ususal caveat of not related, not profiting in any way etc etc applies. Am just a happy (albeit broke!) customer...

Hi,

I just changed the RF modulator and installed a switch to "off" the antaena its alot better now but still not great. The problem is that BMW HU is very good the installer was amazed by the clarity of the m'sian channels also the HU still was recieving the Local channels pretty well w/o connectng the Antanae.

Cannt use the RCA method with the amp as the intereference will be significant.

Guess i dont have a choice, i would not have installed if not for the fact that i had the LCD/GPS/DVD player taken from my car when i scraped. So just installed them to make use rather then leave in my storeroom

Cheers
