Need some advice here. My ride is an e39 5 series. Recently, I facelifted my lights to the clear ones. Not xenon, juz normal halogens. My beef is with the new headlights.
I notice the throw of the headlights is slightly irregular as in the path of the light is short and ends with a jagged kind of horizontal line instaed of circular throw as in my previous light. I have tried raising the height of the headlamp to the highest height possible from the in-dash control, and the throw of the light is still weak. I am not sure if this is due to the type of bulb that came with the headlight.
Any idea on how I can make it brighter i.e. what kind of alternative bulb I can use, without damaging the load, bulb holder etc?
Many thanks.
Andy, if you want to get further beam throw you require to adjust the headlamp horizontal & vertical adjuster (white color) using philip cross head screwdriver.
for your info - on right hand side headlamp the extreme right screw adjuster is for horizontal adjustment toward left or right and center screw adjuster is for vertical high and low.(mirror adjusting on the left headlamp ) Be careful and not to break the adjuster by going to the extreme adjustment, once break not replacement part only solution is to change the whole module. As for E39 low beam is using H7 bulb hence the beam pattern is like one step when you project direct onto the wall. You can do away the step like beam pattern by adjusting the reflector lever, what you need is to open the black plastic cap on the headlamp and flick the lever over and the beam will be horizontal without step. Try Philips crystal vision H7 that can give long throw of beam if you do not wish to change to xenon.
