l guess this qns must be asked alot of times alr..but anyway just curious..to prob own a SLK200 or 523..how much do u think is enough to maintain 1?

Re: hw much do u earn?

how much you think you can spare a month and how much you want to lay down as down payment?
Btw SLK200 will cost you at least ~$195K to put on the road vs. 523i at about $169K. there are not the same in price range!.

Re: hw much do u earn?

actually if u were to get SLK from PI..l think 175++ can get alr..:)

Re: hw much do u earn?

True, better be comfortable owning the set of wheels than overstretch. Enjoy the ride, there is always another car coming along.

Yo bro, u sold yr 318? goin for new ride ??

IMHO,the question you post is kinda relative and can be difficult to answer as each individual has a very different profile. Being a 523 owner, let me share with you my personal experience.

For a start, without fail on a annual basis there is this rd tax and ins, i reckon at least $4 to 5k a year will be spend on that. Petrol will cost you $4k to $5k on avg based on national avg of 20km travel. Then there is maint charges which i simply based on pure maint and svc and that can cost $500 to $2000 a year.
Lastly, not forgetting the annual car dep and for a 5 series, the loss is especially huge in the first yr amounting from $40 to $50k and i personnally adopt a $20k to $25k loss on a per yr basis(i mean for a e60 523). So if you will to total up the cost involved. In a nutshell, the yearly cost will be at best $30k though i choose to believe $40k is a more feasible figure.

If you follow % as yr annual income rule, ask yrself how much you are willing to allocate to this car assuming it don generate any income for you.

Oh yes the above do not factor in any mod yah.

Having say so, let's us not be too sticky over facts and figure. cos in life, you only live once and if everyone will to standby such rule, taxi biz will be booming.

End of the day,as long you live on yr income. I suppose there is nothing wrong in rewarding yrself over a ride you hanker most

Re: hw much do u earn?

SLK is a lifestyle car and beautiful car.....e60 on the other hand is a practical sports sedan which u can ferry passengers.....it all boils down to ur needs and lifestyle......

OT a bit, ever consider the new 3 series cab ...which will be launch next yr..fingers crossed....

Re: hw much do u earn?

Ur avatar already put SLK...so I guess that's where your heart lies...:) Anyways those PIs that advert 175k have strings attached one, better call them to check.

Re: hw much do u earn?

Hey Regret,

gd deal on my previous ride? not really lah. i suggest you sell yr present ride first. In this way you will have no choice but to buy new ride kekeke, devil advocate.

Honestly two of yr choice are of different class leh, it really bottom to yr individual preferences.

hapi shopping.

Re: hw much do u earn?

being the owner of both cars.. (slk200 and 520i) i can tell you that both cars are very different... very different feelings and experience...slk200 is more fun to drive... quite practical... but only 2 seater... the topless driving is also very fun... whereas the 5 is more relaxed..classy.... very comfortable... i suggest u go and test drive both cars and see how..

as for me personally..i get bored of the slk already... but my love for the beemer...its still there... though the beemer is less flashy.. less flamboyant.. i just love it..

Re: hw much do u earn?

no income.. student!!

Re: hw much do u earn?

Turbo has put it in a very nice way on the ownership of rides. People will always find ways to "reason" out their decisions.

Once bought, think of all the good points of the ride, for as long as you can. After all, if you are fickle, you will "reason" yourself out to change the ride sometime in the future. It is a cycle.

Enjoy! :juggle:

Re: hw much do u earn?

guess with the maximum loan (10yrs) of S$150k for the 523i... monthly payment would be around $1.7k... thus need to gross $68k per yr to achieve it... therefore, monthly loan payment would be about 37.5% of take home income...

What abt costs of car maintenance such as petrol, road tax, insurance, wear and tear parts, parking charges,... and other expenses liking giving parents monthly allowance, income tax, mortgage? I personally think abit risky to spend so much on a ride if earning $70k region. I wld think annual income of $150k onwards seems more realistic leh. :)

Re: hw much do u earn?

I think driving a flashy sports car bought with a financial stretch (10-year loan etc) sounds very try-hard. Sure it's fun to drive but nobody ever needs a convertible you know ;)

Be true to yourself man - there are many things in life more material than material.
