Welcome to Singapore dude. The rules are the rules even if they do sound unreasonable.
Alot of things you have to put up with, although it doesn't mean you have to like it.

But on the other hand, I suppose it is a necessary enforcement due to the negligent actions of some drivers who use their phones while driving. Have had first hand experience with some dickheads who drive and yak like they're in some coffee shop unaware that they're drifting to the next lane. Some end up road hogging while some others end up suddenly jamming brakes cos' their response was delayed as they were on the phone.

Re: HP Driving.....

I got this from a friend over email:

>>A note from my colleague's friend . . .

>>My friend's Dad was stopped today by the police for having his mobile

>>Apparently, the mobile phone needs to have the handsfree set attached to
>>the mobile to be ALLOWED next to driver. If no handsfree set is attached,
>>it will be assumed that there is the POSSIBILITY of driver using the

Re: HP Driving.....

Seriously...I dun believe that they can give a ticket for having a phone next to you when you are driving....then where must we keep our phones when you drive ?? In the boot ah ?? Crazy.....

If this is the case...that would make smoking while driving...eating...drinking etc illegal too...cos one hand off the steering wheels....which also includes....digging your nose...ears....

If the case is that they dun allow people to use the phone while driving....might as well just say that all drivers must switch off their phones while vehicle is in motion....if you are caught with the phone switch on while car is moving...even if your phone is in the boot also can book you....cos we can always use BT technology mah....and we have the intend to use the phone.

Singapore is a FINE...a real FINE City....kenna pay alll the time, bankrupt all my money !!

Re: HP Driving.....

I'm not so scared of the fines... It's the points.

Re: HP Driving.....

there has been a case when a person was booked for eating a burger while driving. The law doesnt really make sense. Delayed response because of talking is reasonable. But will ur response b delayed if eating?? they book because both hands have to be on steering wheel. then mt how?

Re: HP Driving.....

I hate to say this..

while rules and regulations are created for the benefit of a society, the rules for such a situation is beyond unreasonable.

I would turn my phone off whilst driving, or leave the phone in the glove box or something

Re: HP Driving.....

Ghosty, I agree with you that they are crazy....

I dig my nose very often when driving.. use wat to dig if two hands on the wheels?

Jaskin, both fine and points I also scare..so i m migrating to BKK...

Re: HP Driving.....

the best part....

while employing such a strict ruling system over the people, the government plans on casinos for the city state....

I really cannot imagine what is going thru their minds.

Read this from today's Straits Times:

Police clarify what's OK and what's not, concerning using mobile in your car.

Basic conditions to certify an offence:
1. Car must be in motion.
2. Driver must be HOLDING the handphone with 1 hand while driving.
3. Driver must be communicating with the phone while driving.

IT IS OK, if you are using a hands-free or speaker, as long as you are NOT HOLDING the phone.
Pressing the phone's key pad or the hands-free button ONCE to connect, is ok.

If you got hands-free and still hold onto the phone, you are simply guai lan and deserved to be booked. :slaphead:

These are the basic guidelines.
No need to ask can sms or not, my answer is "go die". :stfu:

Digging nose with 1 hand while driving is ok, as long as you don't lose control of your car.
But to be safe, better keep both hands on the steering while digging.
Best still, pull over to the road side, then dig your nose. :screwedu:

So I cannot put my left hand on her lap?

Driving her and driving the car are 2 different things.
Anyways, you would not want anyone to see you driving her, though.

Perhaps, while you let your left hand do the walking, she can let her left hadn do the great deception by holding onto the steering. Like that her right hand can still do the gear-shifting and all.

hmmm....getting rather ranchy here, better refrain before KAtoNA banned by admin.
But the morale of the story is....stupid question, stupid answer.
End of OT.
