How much mileage can a typical steptronic gearbox last?

saw a 318i e46 with about 66k mileage
question as above. how much can one last before u start to have problems?
also, how much would a repair or replacement typically cost?

I think depends on how hard the owner thrashes the car. Rumour has it that the gearbox shd be good for 120,000km to 150,000km.

on e46fanatics, some have reported 150k to 175k before slippage occurs. There are two school of thoughts on changing the ATF though...

Call Raymund Khang of Khang's Automatic Transmissions about this subject. He is expert in auto transmissions, and he shd be able to tell you how much it will cost to service it
