Those that are driving E90 325, 330 or E60 520, 523, 525 & 530 would have an I-drive (Intelligence computer) in their car dashboard. Upgrade are those who have not updated the latest software for their respective I-Drive.
It is done at PML Service centre.

It took the techs 1-2 days for my idrive firmware to be updated. Done at PML. Do remember to check through the screens after that coz mine got a bit wonky. Now my TV function occupies only half the screen. So I'll be heading back tothe service centre again soon.
Frimware upgrades are like the updates you download automatically for Windows XP. It irons out some of the bugs from older versions. It's practically harmless if done properly, so go for it!

As I hear it, they usually have to wait for the car to cool down before they actually perform the s/w upgrade, else errors might appear and they have to redo everything all over again. I think the current CIP version is 23.2. I got mine upgraded about 1 mth ago. Some menu options may appear different after the upgrade.
