I used to be told when I first learn to walk that if u want to buy a car that can last 20 years, u buy a merc or bmw. Those days, bmw only does NA. Now that they are going into turbos, can I still tell my grand children in future?

agreed tat still can see alot of very old boxy mercz on today road but i thk not much old BMW or Audi leh..... volvo is also 1 of the reliable n they hav turbo on most of the model. i thk the older days simple & less sophisticated design on cars are stil much easy to maintain....

those cars will prob be more common on the road if their COE was lower...majority were exported due to COES like 35+ with the exception of some....ie , the orange R34 with sequential gearbox built for drag racing.
jap turbos are quite cheap, 1500-2300 can get. (non ball bearing) spoilt, toss em out., or rebuild them with oil seal kits.
how much are 335 turbos going for?
stock turbos prob can last 5 yrs at least with factory boost setting. with high boost, i reckon 2.5 to 3 yrs before u get the 'howl of death'

Turbos in all my Volvos (S70, S80, V70) never failed once, including the twin turbo set up in my ex -T6. Milage into 100K plus. In fact the S80 transmission (from GM) probably could not take the power and had issues before I sold that off, Keeping all the car stock condition obviously help!
