Hi Bros,

I need some advice here. How does a change of colour affect a car price, in specific a 320? I was told that the owner bought a black, but liked the titanium gray better and thus resprayed it. However, he did not update LTA records. My questions are

1. Is it a must to update LTA when one changes colour? Any penalties for not doing so?
2. If I buy this, how will this impact on the price I can let go of the ride?

Well, 2 aspects.
1) LTA needs to provide the Police all details of cars breaking laws like car-jacking, hit and run, blah, blah, blah... but that has nothing to do with the price. However, that will carry a fine because owners are required to update LTA when you respray. Similarly, when you get married, you need to update your marital status and I believe you can be fined for not doing so.
2) As for the price difference you will get for selling a car whereby the color is not updated with LTA, subjective. An easy way out is find out from LTA how much it will cost to update their records, provided they don't impose a fine, and discount this from the agent you want to buy the car from. Like that, you can own it with peace of mind.

i'm always skeptical when a seller tells me they resprayed their car because they didn't like the colour. usually it means accident.

Imo its not just selling price, at any point in time there will be more than a couple 320 for sale. Buyers will typically take the ones with original colours like Kuvesh mentioned.

thx guys for the advice....i m actually looking at this car Used BMW 320i XL Car for Sale from Singapore, Hin Lung Credit - sgCarMart

apart from the change in colour, i didn't feel comfortable with the story of ex owner is rich guy who owns 6 Bimmers. His daughter got sick of this 320iXL and thus he traded in with HL for a 330. 2 things stood out

1. Service record showed that 13000KM was clocked by Jun 2008, which means it took 1 year to clock another 6000KM only?

2. The owner's address in the service booklet is a HDB at Pasir Ris.

What do you guys think?

Original BMW paintwork is nothing to shout about. Orange peel is so common!
