high pitched vibration felt on steering...

Hi guys,

Not sure what is contributing to this problem but i am getting this high pitch vibration sensation on the steering everytime i travel above 140...

Moreover, my exhaust note seems to be on the high side..could the exhaust be the culprit? But i don't experience this when revving to high RPMs in low speed..only during high speed...

Alignment doesnt seem to be a problem..balancing perhaps?? But my steering isnt wobbling...

EDIT: my ride is N42 valvetronic...

Please share experience and advise...

Check the front control arms

Re: high pitched vibration felt on steering...

The control arms are due for changes...that's the culprit?

Re: high pitched vibration felt on steering...

Yes if ur car is more than 2yrs old or more, E46 N42 front control arms tend to wear quite fast especially if u often drive them hard.

Re: high pitched vibration felt on steering...

its coming to 4 years d.....i drove the car again today and i can feel the vibration sensation at about 3800rpm....that should be gone once i changed the control arms?

Re: high pitched vibration felt on steering...

Yes it should go away, but then u why u say it vibrates at 3800rpm? If ur talking about engine vibration then change ur engine mounting. Engine rpm has got nothing to do with ur steering. Steering vibration at certain high speeds are cause by the worn control arm bushes. If 4 yrs already go and change it without doubt.
