High pitch noise after starting car

Hi guys,

I've recently been experiencing a high pitched shrill noise (sounds like its coming from the stereo/radio) whenever I start up my car. The noise will last for a minute or so and will then go silent.

Anyone experience anything similar and any idea what it is? Sounds like my CD changer is searching or something like that.

Have u tried switching off your sound system before starting the car?

Thanks. Will give it a try. I usually leave the radio on when I switch off the engine but I think the sound does appear even if I did switch off the radio before starting the car. Did you have the same problem too?

No I don't but helping u to isloate the problem. If after switching off the sound system the sound persists then obviously not the CD changer lor. If that is the case, cld be one of the belts.

If it's a high-pitch sound coming from the dashboard, it may be the air-con blower. Not fatal but can be quite disconcerting. Repairing it requires the mechanic to remove part of the dashboard.

i'm getting a high pitched squeal too.. prob comes from the a/c belt tensioner...jsut bought one, will replace it...its old anyway...cost me $45 ..... should solve the problem...

theres another high pitch sound sometimes that rises in pitch with the rpm...but i suspect thats prob an inadequately shielded cable in my head unit...prob too close to ignition...

Thanks guys. The sound is like the sound you hear from a CD player when it is trying to read a scratched CD. But I don't think its my CD changer as the sound is still there even if I remove the 6-disc cassette when starting the car.

The sound is from the dashboard but it goes away after a minute or so when the car has warmed up. Doesn't sound when the car is started with a warm engine....

Me too. Every morning for abt 30seconds on-off then disappears. Quite annoying.
Usually drown it with the radio. My screeching brake olso takes quite afew taps to go away.
