HID fog lights for E90....beauty

Re: HID fog lights for E90....beauty

Hong Guan quoted me $380 to supply and install 6000k HID fogs for E46. Just hasn't been on the top of my to-do list...

Maybe if there'ws enough interested, we can do a group buy/install from there?

Re: HID fog lights for E90....beauty

i feel that's just too bright.. road hazard.

white lamps from hoen should work fine :)

Re: HID fog lights for E90....beauty

I am not very sure bout this, but from what i hear, isnt 6000k too high for the car's electrical wirings?
You might want to make sure that if you change e bulb, the wirings dont burn up and short the car. BMWs are mostly electrical. One thing goes wrong, e whole car goes wrong.
When i first got my car, e previous owner changed to white light bulbs and luckily, i spotted the areas surrounding the lightbulb to be slightly blackened and i changed the lights out.
If not i guess i will be changing more than that...

Moral of the story: change a full HID kit with wirings that can take e extra heat, current etc.... cheapfix light bulbs may cost u more at e end of the day.

*I have yet to go for the full angel eyes xenon kit. Currently using Philips Diamond Vision. Not that prone to burning, yet still white enuff.

Cheers.

Re: HID fog lights for E90....beauty

Normal fog lights bulbs whiteness could not match those Philips diamond vision light bulb, if i am not wrong, the only way is to HID it........

maybe there are new products in the market which some forummers could shed some light.....

:)

SFG267,

I think the bulbs that the previous owner of your car installed was of a higher voltage rating than stock to cause the blackening.

As far as I understand, temperature colour is not power dependant. You can have a 6V bulb that is of 6000k colour temperature.

It's indeed very bright. One of the forumers here has got it on his Z4. Blinding me from the rear...damn.

Re: HID fog lights for E90....beauty

awwww...DAMN! love the lights in the video! so damn cool..love starting..the part where the 2 circle lights on!
OT /btw i once saw a white civic in malaysia with white head lights n its blinking all the way..it was like left, right, left, right! so cool..looks like american cop cars..their headlights can also blink!

Re: HID fog lights for E90....beauty

Colour temp of 6000k is not power dependent. Doesn't mean the whiter, the more power it draws. As a matter of fact, HIDs actually draw less power than normal halogen bulbs. They average only around 35w compared to standard OEM halogens of 50w. Some people may have problems if they install aftermarket halogen bulbs that give out larger output - usually at the expense of higher wattage - more current draw, hence more heat.

Most decent HID kits come with ballast sets that already employ quality wiring, instead of normal rubber or plastic, the insulation is actually silicon, which has a much higher temp rating. I had a chance to inspect the $380 kit at HG... so far it looks really ok leh, all silicon insulators for wiring and the darn price is amazing. Very tempted to change my fogs to HID too, but current fear is that it may not match the color of my Philips HID for mainbeams.

Dun pray pray... there is a Mazda 6 out there with THREE sets of HIDs... owner was so tempted by the pricing that he went the whole hog. The M6 has HID mainbeam, HID foglight in main cluster, HID foglamp in lower bumper location. Now, THAT is a car I wouldn't wanna be driving in front of!

and when driving in the rain, mist or fog, he may have a serious problem of poor penetration and reduced visibility.

Mazda 6 shouldn't be called an m6, M6 is BMW M6, Mazda 6 shoud be MZ6 or something. Anyway, HID light without adaptive leveling is really a pain to other road uses. It basically blinds everyone else on the road. Dangerous la.

I know, as a fellow BWM enthusiast, M6 should mean something else to us. But in the general market - you mention M6 - I guess the Mazda is a more popular guess. In fact, the BMW M6 is not widely known. M3 and M5 is more popular.

Wait... nowadays mention M5 - you get a Jap MPV instead of a 500bhp luxury sedan.

Self levelling? Yah right. Tell that to the hordes of Lexus RX300 on the roads with OEM HIDs, and even some 430s... never fails to blind me man.

Self levelling should mean - you have to ensure that its LEVELled yourSELF... and not always rely on the mechanism thinking that no one will be blinded by you... hahah

He definitely has. I don't think he cares. Visibility to the rear is also made worse by a replica STI GT wing. :screwedu:
