hi-lo converter

Re: hi-lo converter

I use Helix component speakers for my front and back, competition and dark blue respectively.

Also using Helix Esprit H400 amps to drive them.

Not the best but bang for bucks and very decent.

How is the Helix brand for hi-lo?

Compared to Audio Control?

Anybody has the experience?

hi Bro, never tried (didn even know) of Helix brand hi-lo... i doubt its manufactured by them, so probably just a Helix-branded product.

As for ac, yes i've tried and definitely as good as you can expect fm anything coming out fm audiocontrol.

However, juz a pt to note: not the best hi-lo works with all signal processors, esp those that have been designed for OEM level (noisy) input, so be careful when u match hi-lo convertors. if you are using for direct input into amp, also check that the amps do not have in-built signal processing/cleaning, which MAY negate the effect of some of these good hi-los.

Err..Richlee7, you got me confused.

Does this apply for AC LC6?

LC6 at USD139, and including shipment should reach Singapore at no more than SGD250 seems a steal...

sori to confuse :yummie:

putting a gd hi-lo (which has normally well built-in noise filters, ac solutions are in fact using discrete components) these may not be good for input into DSP's designed to 'clean OEM signals' e.g. Alpine's 701 (jus an example hor...).

due to the electrical characteristics of the components (2 sets of filters in series), some very gd hi-los have been known to cause ringing (buzz) when paired to the 701, thus many believing that the 701 is better paired with only 'digital output', where in fact, the problem was the hi-lo. pump in a 'normal' signal (using a cheap/simple hi-lo) to the 701 and it works without the buzzing!... tested n proven by several installers over the past few years... anyway its a long story...

so, dats why i say: depends on what you pair it with... many years ago when dsp not common, and amps were simply amps, good quality hi-lo works like a dream, but now, u nid to exercise caution when selecting type of components to 'put together' as they are individually, sometimes, too smart for their own good ;)

Re: hi-lo converter

The hi-lo will most probably go between the head set and the amplifier...no dsp for now...

LC6 good enough?

Re: hi-lo converter

I am reading this with interest.

I have not heard of Hi-Lo converters before, does this mean that if there is no DSP, there is no need for this gadget?

I am already running active for front and passive for back, and have not been introduced a Hi-Lo converter before.....

i assume its oem hu to normal (without built-in dsp) amp, so SHOULD be ok ... LC6 fm audiocontrol... of cos good! not looking at the LC6i? ... all the best anyway! :)

6i of course....

I think I will go for whichever is cheaper..ie 6i and Helix...I used to be using David Navone..and seems okay too.

david navone!!! hahahaha ... reali long time haven't met people using DNs liao, but they're really good, imho. also veri good value for money ... btw, it was my DNs that had problem with the 701...

Re: hi-lo converter

Been using my Helix Hi-Lo for almost 2 yrs now. So far so good. No problems.

Have you ever use LC6?
Any difference?

How much you pay for it by the way?

Hi there,

I have been using Audio Control LC6i on my E90 for 18months, c/w internal summing and controls up to 6 channel which is good if u intend to power the front, rear speakers and sub.. Pretty decent and no complain. I have taken it out after i sold the car and wish to sell it off. Please PM me if u r interested.

Cheers

Re: hi-lo converter

I've used helix hi-lo converter to pair with my Alipine processor 701 running 3-way and they work great for the past 2 years. No hissing and "aeroplane sound". If i rem correctly, the model is something like Helix AAC..

Its fairly cheap costly ard +- $150.. :laughlik:

Sorry bro, can't remember how much I paid as it was some time ago but I remembered that it was substantially cheaper than LC-6.
