i don't see how lucky this guy is..he wasn't even at fault..and he doesnt need to pay for the fine which was being issue to the previous owner..is there a way to get the Singapore police to do something about it? sucks that u have to pay that 100RM for nothing..(some ppl might think 100RM is little..but this guy didnt even do anything why must pay that extra 100RM)

Re: hi everyone, digusting experience to share @ malaysia

this is not the previous owner's fault. it's the officers who choose to capitalise on this situation.

basically, in their minds, they also know you are the new owner, and if this really does go up to their honest superiors, you will go off scot free. They then give you 3 choices which they know you will never choose, because it is unfair to begin with (and they dont expect you to choose). Then psychologically, when they give you the 4th alternative, you will choose it because it seems the least jialat of all the above choices.

This is basic sales tactics. and you bought it.

Many people will simply pay up because the amount is afterall affordable. (if the fourth choice is 500rm, it'll have then made no sense) and they weigh the time and effort taken to bring their case all the way up to bao qing tian, vs 100rm, they will choose to pay up. everybody happy.

you have a choice actually. you can choose to still plead not guilty, and spend 2 days clearing your name, or, you can daringly tell them in the face, you do not condone bribery, and you are wont to report them for soliciting bribes. But what for?

This problem will never go away until the officers are paid decent salaries. If you choose to go into the jungle, then you have to live by the rules of the jungle. I've been in these situations before, but while i will scold expletives at being so suay to be in such a situation, i do not begrudge them for what they do. For what it's worth, i am thankful to have a neighbour like malaysia, a road system like malaysia's and a place for us to appreciate our cars. I do not hate them or feel any negativity towards them at all. If msia has a system that behaves exactly like singapore, i might as well go buy a 100bhp family car suan le.

well said racebred....lol.....rather take it like you do than feel aggrieved...

Re: hi everyone, digusting experience to share @ malaysia

I drive to KL quite often and usually I'll drive at night just to avoid those corrupted traffic police. I think their laser guns are not able to detect in the dark, therefore they are never in operation in the evenings.

Here's where you can check if you have any outstanding traffic offences in Malaysia:

Check Summons

That is very true... its not hard to satisfy them. Once i got booked for not having my safety belt on, after payment (probably RM50 is too much for this little offence, cos' i had no change) the mata told me if he sees me again he will not stop me. Coincidentally 2 weeks later i bumped into the same guy's roadblock (cos' i frequent the same location) and again myself and 2 passengers had no safety belt... the officer stopped me but upon recognising me indeed he flagged me to move on... hahaha the guy kept to his words

Yes it depends on how far you got the guts to bargain... but i think if your car is flashy they will be very pissed if you bargain too much... guess it depends on the situation like how many people around or how kwai lan the fella is

Re: hi everyone, digusting experience to share @ malaysia

dude this is not personal okay. no matter what you should always have your safety belts on. Even if you are just going round the block. Go search for videos of crash test dummies. its not a joke. I cannot understand why anyone would consider driving without putting on their safety belts at all. There's nothing to gain at all by leaving them unbuckled. I know i'm not keeping to the content of the thread, going off topic, but i feel compelled to say this, lest anyone who reads this misunderstands and trivialises the importance of seat belts. let's not fark around with our safety.

Re: hi everyone, digusting experience to share @ malaysia

Welcome aboard... RM100 is cheap to settle prob. But careful as most likely they will not bother to erase the records. Change no. plate will be the best solution:blahblah:

Re: hi everyone, digusting experience to share @ malaysia

the malaysian police are quite a under paid force,so from time to time they think up ingenius ways to get some pocket money.

i am quite satisfied at the way the police ask for pocket money, always in a very polite and non-direct way.would you prefer they point their gun at your head and ask for money ?

my point of view is that any blame or criticism should be directed at the government.

That was what i was told initially... but apparently from my last 2 years' experience they do erase... use the link provided by Dleo to check records... it works
