Welcome aboard buddy.

Hope you enjoy your stay here. Happy for you on your new ride. Sure you will enjoy it. Collected my last Sat n enjoying every minute. But pls bear in mind that during the running in, FC may be on the high end ard 14-15 urban n 12-13 mixed.

Hopefully, it should improve after the running in period.

Till we meet... have a great n safe ride

Cheers

Re: Hi- A Newbie here

HI, collected my E60 last Friday but have not been driving around too much yet....btw, I was told by agent that there is no need to run in the engine. true? What's the running-in routine for BMW?

PS> I have floored it a few times to overtake, and I must asy that it has good acceleration...better than my previous IS250 :)

Must run in. I can relate my experience.

First 30 - 100 km: FC = 14.8L/100km(Urban), 13L/100km(mixed)
101 - 150km : FC = 13.5L/100km(Urban), 11.5L/100km(mixed)
150 - 250 : FC = 12.5L/100km(Urban), 9.9L/100km(mixed)

Will update further; only traveled 243km so far.

One piece of advice; don't rev up over 3000 during the first 500km and try not to exceed 100kmh.

I know it's tempting(I done it twice, b4 an expert told me to wait first).

Better safe than sori.

Until we meet ... you have a great n safe ride

Cheers

Re: Hi- A Newbie here

Wah lau...went past 3000 quite a few times and also once between 5 to 6k rpm :( but all less than 100 km/h so far. hope nothing will go wrong...will stick to the run in routine you recommended. Looks like BMW is not much different in jap car running in...

Re: Hi- A Newbie here

Thinking aloud now....will also find a workshop to change the engine oil when I reach about 1k in mileage. Maybe will skip the 5k servicing until the 1st servicing at PML. do u think this will be ok? Thks

That shl be fine. But 1k must still change mineral oil, not synthetic yet. 3K then change to synthetic, once the piston all smoothe liao.

Do you mean you want to skip PML 1st servicing? I m think of that too. Will be going down to PML for a free polishing(complain that there r a few hair-lines), and i-drive check(unable to use bluetooth to call out and unable to do voice activation). Will check with my SE when I go there.

Will update you

Btw, running in is same for Jap or conti cars. Only difference is probably conti cars like bimmer are manufactured with a better engine which can cushion any non running-in shocks 'better'. In turn some bochup SE will tell customers conveniently that running in is not necessary.

At least wait till more than 500km before you Vroom Vroom to 5000rpm:dance:

Just my 2 cents worth

Cheers
