Its always easier to tell pple E46 then one shot pple know that they are talking about which model. You tell pple 04 320i ok lah..cos 2004 then confirm no more E36 liao. But if say you put the year when E36 was replaced by E46...then you will have pple asking....which model ??
BKM, the short answer is that it refers to the particular generation of BMW. It does not take into account which engine capacity within that generation and whether it has been facelifted within that generation or not. So for example, the 3 series that is before the current model is called the e46 whereas the current model is called the e90.
Maybe you can make use this simple understanding of bimmer numbers...
"Exx" eg E46 = Chasis model
"Mxx" or "Sxx" eg M54 = Engine Type, "Sxx" for the M-Power Engines
