help with steering wheel noise..irritating

Hi,

Mine is the sport version for e60 with round airbag. Recently experience rattling noise from within the steering wheel when itravelling over rough roads, especially after changing to 19 tyre. Perhaps its the tyre that is too hard or maybe there is something loose within the steering wheel. I pop out the airbag to check and eveything looks ok. Any bros experience this? Thanks for any advise.

mine too. a stock non-lci type.

the sound came from the buttons on the steering wheel. stick some double sided tape into the small opening inside and it is gone.
but becareful cos airbag. u dun want some projectile when it is deployed.

Hi Tiger, thanks for the tips. Can i clarify the tape is to be applied from outside through gaps or to take out airbag and stick it from inside? Thanks.

haa. i lazy. after identifying that the noise came from the left buttons (can feel ith your fingers when you touch them lightly - loose vs the right side-feels tight), i squeeze some double sided tape (transparent type) into the gap of the airbag cover mount. after that swee swee liao. but some time still comes back, which i need to "readjust" it again.

Will post a pic later to show you exactly where. But it is a non-lci ok.

Thks Tiger. Mine also non lci. I also suspect it may come from the black casing behind the steering wheel. Wonder how do i open that...

My steering wheel is stock. but think the idea may be the same la.

Hi

Thanks for the pic...it really helps in a way...i tried to check if my buttons were loose or not but it was not...so while on expressway, the sound came back and i feel around the whole sterring wheel and FINALLY managed to locate the source. Its actually the signal stalk. When i apply pressure and press on it, the sound disapper...so i m going to put some double sided tap in between te reduce the room for vibration....thanks again, if not i may not find the source.

managed to solve the irritating sound by stuffing a small piece of double sided tape behind the BC/Check button on my signal stalk and the sounds completely gone....its really rgreat coz it was irritationg me for almost 2 months and i thought of changing steering wheel...heng ah...

Great idea - the Blackbox... can catch the LTA Enforcement bike parked at handicap lot.



I saw one parked at my place. Took a picture of his bike.

He approached me and asked me what's the matter.

I took a picture of him too.

He told me he's on official duty.

I told him to explain that to the Prime Minister.
