Help please - No dust brake pads

Hi everyone -

Finally, the service indicator message on my 5 series iDrive says my front brake pads need to be changed.

I am frankly sick and tired of the brake dust muck that is a pain to clean off on my rims and now the brake pads are now due for a change and I am asking for recommendations on dustless brake pads.

So I really appreciate any advice and recommendations

a. Which shop should I go to to get the brake pads replaced?

b. Any particular brand recommended?

c. IS IT WISE to change to a non-OEM dustless brake pads?

Thanks every one

Re: Help please - No dust brake pads

use EBC green, or Federal race pads.

no such thing as dustless, no dust means no stop.

See Rod at R2D

Re: Help please - No dust brake pads

Phil and Robert,

Guys - Thanks very much for the replies...

Ok - I understand that there is no such thing as dustless brake pads,,,

But I looked at the ones from other car makers and i dont see they have so much amount of brake dusts from the front set. (esp when you look around you when you are driving ... the jap cars even for Lexus etc... )

So maybe I should be asking - is there a particular brand of brake pads which dont give up SO MUCH Dust ?

And where is R2D located? I am living on the east side of Singapore... any one of you can point me to a reputable place to replace my brake pads

And oh... one other thing - and please please forgive me on this silly question and request

Mine is a 2005 520i (the inline 6cylinder 2.2litre model) and I have a standard front fender.
I noticed on some models of the 525i or the 530i, their standard front fender has 2 small square/rectangular slots that have slanted openings on each side just next to the foglights.

I checked my fender and realised that I have the same slots - but it is not open. However when I nudged it, I know its just like a 'cover' and I am sure it can be tweaked to open up just like the 525i/530i. You know what I mean?

So where can I get it done? Cos I might as well go to a shop who can do my front brake pads and also this thing as well.

Please advice - again, thanks very much and appreciate your feedback

Re: Help please - No dust brake pads

BMW brake pads are quite good actually, the dust comes from excellent braking power from stock pads

check the "workshops and help" section above. Fellow forummer "Silver" also supplies EBC pads

R2D at Unity Centre, you can check for their details at Site Sponsor Listing.

I used the National Brake Pads from Rod, much less dust than the OEM. Not much dust even 1 week without car wash. But in terms of braking, it is lesser, but I am used to it. Just brake slightly earlier. I am fitted with stainless steel brake hose when e-braking it still work well.

Re: Help please - No dust brake pads

Samuel, you think National pads are lesser than OEM? I had them, i dont think they were at all

Re: Help please - No dust brake pads

Axxis Deluxe Plus Brake Pads.

Very low dust and decent braking but not as good as OEM but only a bit worse.

Personal view... butt feel that these brake pad should last longer.

Re: Help please - No dust brake pads

I am getting my hawk performance ceramic pads from Servotronic (sin ming auto care) real soon. I had EBC redstuff on my previous ride and it worked well but i heard that these hawk performance ceramics are pretty good, ie good bite, not a lot of dust, and doesn't eat on the rotors too much. You may want to consider them as well.

Michaelp, BMW are meant for autobahn hi speed braking. That's why it is so dusty. Mayb Rod can explain better. Anyway, i don't really car about brake dust as long as it does an excellant job,. I m on an OEM brand call Textar.

I found an old thread about brake dust. http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/suspen...uy-lesser-brake-dust-pad.html?highlight=Brake

Hey Davidtch, (and the rest of the folks who replied as well)

thanks - that past thread attachment . It was very useful. I am going down today to check out BVO or R2D and may install the federal pads.

I am not an fast driver -but do drive aggressively occasionaly when I am on the NS Highway.

Ok - done the brake pad change at kbs today with no drama. As usual , good clean place and a lounge to sit and wait while they changed the pads.

Oh - BTW, I chose to have OEM pads installed - I think its called Textar or something like that. Thats the one i learnt from readng the past thread that Davidtch sent to me on brakepads replacement. Very helpful. Thanks !!!

Thanks everyone

Hawk Performance: High Performance Brakes

Hi bro Zennie,

Care to pm me the price for both the redstuff and hawk ceremic? I'm a few km to change my brake pads and are looking for redstuffs until u mentioned this Hawks. Can I also know the temp rating for both the pads if u know them. (I do not track thus I do not need a high temp pad)

What I realli like abt redstuff is the reduced brakedust + longlife + no noise.. :)

Thks..

p.s: are u the same zennie in FD forum? :laughlik:

Have you changed your brake pads? How much and where...I am also looking for softer (so that I do not have to change rotor everytime I change the pads) and lesser brakedust pads...
