HELP on a used E65 7 series

Hi all,

As the title suggests, i'm considering to purchase a used 730Li. I have shortlised 2 cars:

a 2005 7 with 48,000 mileage
a 2007 7 with 12,800 mileage

The only thing i'm concerned with is the maintainence of a 7, as i have had friends who driven the e65 7 and complained about the expensive servicing and spare parts.

Firstly, I would like to seek help from you guys either have experience with the e65 7 or had friends who drives it. (eg. instead of 15K intervals, do it in 8K, change syn. oil every 3K? etc etc)

Secondly, since the PML warranty will be over, should I purchase an extended warranty with PML or try others such as Juzz For Cars? What will be the cost for the former and the latter?

A million thanks to everyone, and have a good weekend!

Cheers!

Re: HELP on a used E65 7 series

i suggest u do a comparison on the coverage of whats covered under each service centers warranty and weigh the pros and cons. for a used 7 series, its imperitive that u get all the coverage and protection you need and not just coverage on certain parts.

get a price brake down from both on what they will cover under warranty and the price for each and weigh the differences. the one with a more comprehensive coverage would be ideal for used cars IMO

Re: HELP on a used E65 7 series

I see, but don't these car dealers normally not give the car warranty? What about the servicing then? Which workshop do you recommend?

Many thanks!

Re: HELP on a used E65 7 series

My dad has a 2005 FL E65 and he has (thankfully), very little problems with the car. Basic stuff such as battery change and wiper and normal/general servicing. Perhaps you'd like to elaborate on what you friends are complaining about.

iam confused, u r enquiring about purchasing extended warranty no? depending on used car dealers, most will not provide warranty. i know PML's used car division PPSL gives extended warranty when u purchase a car from them.

if u signed uo warranty with a workshop most likely u have to go to them for servicing else the warranty will not be valid. it only makes sense.

Their 7's breakdown once every 2 months, and they complained about the cost of spare parts after the warranty with PML is up. How is your dad's driving style? How much km's does he clock per year? Thanks for your valuable input!

Cheers

Cheers

Apologies for the confusion. What i mean is that when i purchase the car, it would not come with warranty as the warranty with PML would already be up. What i am asking is which workshop should i send it to (eg. Juzz for cars?). And what would the cost be like? What are the servicing intervals?

Sorry for my ignorance. I have long been a Merc driver, and had driven a W221 S class. So i'm used to Merc's reliability (W221 was a disappointment with many electronic failures).

According to my colleagues and friends, their 7s have many problems. I do not know the exact details, but it is probably due to their driving habits, since the majority of 7-er drivers have no problem with it

A million thanks for those who have helped! :wavey:

To be able to better advise you, you'd need yr friends to specify exactly what has gone wrong with their cars that it breaks down every 2 months.

For my dad's car, a 2005 FL E66, he's so far done about 65k happy kms with the car and is thoroughly pleased with it. So much so that he's putting off buying the new F02.

Its a great car, and I bet you can get a good deal now that the F series (01/02) have come out.

Thanks for your feedback. Does your dad still send the 7 for servicing? If so where? And within what intervals? What would be the cost like?

Cheers!

There are a few workshops that can service the 7 series, look for them in the Sponsors' section.

General servicing costs about $200+ and is done every 10k km, which is what is recommended.

I guess its sometimes luck, but the E65/66 is a nice car to drive.

u can do it at Juzz for Cars. not sure bout 7 series but like TheNew7 said it shld range around 200 to 300 bucks for non major servicing.

Re: HELP on a used E65 7 series

Hi there,

Any idea how much a major servicing will cost? And what is the interval for major servicing? Sorry and thanks!

Cheers

Re: HELP on a used E65 7 series

For servicing issues, BVO or Boss can do the job as well. For extended warranty purchases, look for BOSS Motorsports who has a tie-up with TWN.

Re: HELP on a used E65 7 series

Hi there,

I just paid the deposit on the 730Li. Should get it within 1 week.

Now i am thinking of sending the car for grooming and to sign up for servicing and warranty. Any lobangs or recommendations?

Also thinking of facelifting it to the new 7 series. Any comments?

Thanks so much for all of your help! Without you guys i would not have decided. During the next BMW meetup do call me along! Cuppa on me!
