Re: Help needed! Vibration.

Most vibration problems at idle are due to worn mounts eg. engine mounts but your vibration seems to be happening at moving speeds. Could be due to tyre/rim/suspension problems - an unbalanced rim, embedded object in the tyre, etc...

Check that it is not a rim/tyre issue by ensuring the rotating wheel mass is properly balanced. Can refer to discussions in this thread.

http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/bmw-3-series-owners/78979-road-force-wheel-balancing.html

Once you ruled out the rim/tyre, high chance it could be a suspension issue. In fact, the 'harmonic' nature of the problem points towards this area rather than the wheel. Won't rule out the mounts and bearings either. Get it checked out by the BMW experts (AD and site sponsor workshops) for detailed troubleshooting. Other than PML and Munich Auto, you can find the other site sponsor workshops here...

By the way, did this happen shortly after your gearbox overhaul?

Do let us know when you found the problem and share it back here. Good luck!!!

Re: Help needed! Vibration.

Hi,
This happen after I change the atf oil last year. Maybe its just the timing. But recently it occur more frequently and louder. When idling my steering wheel is not shaking. I just got my car yesterday after gearbox overhaul. While driving home the problem still there.

best is jus to go any site sponsor wrkshp to cfm n get it chked / trouble-shoot / rectify soonest.
things like tis if delayed usually end up worse n more costly.

Re: Help needed! Vibration.

if its speed related vibrations then usually its the parts that spins - wheel bearing, rims, tyres.

You using oem rims ? Go borrow a set of rims/tires and see if you can eliminate that as a source of your problem.

While taking off the rims - check the bearing. Just turn it by hand to feel if its smooth etc.

Go to R2D for it to be checked out if you don't want to get your hands dirty .........
