Help! Coolant indicator lit up on 10mths old BMW

hi there, yesterday noticed my coolant indicator lit up but went off after a few minutes. Thought that I parked on slope thus might cause the indicator not registering correctly.

this morning when start engine, coolant indicator light lit up again for few minutes. Also during driving in the afternoon, indicator lit up for few minutes again.

Really worried. Normally when coolant indicator light lit up only proved that there's a leak. But my ride only 10 mths old and due for servicing in few months time.

What shall you advice?

1. Shall I top up with water and monitor for few days?

2. Can I top up with tap water in first place?

3. Send to PML for check immediately since under warranty?

Kindly add on if you have other suggestions.

Many thanks in advance....

Check i there's green fluid pooling on the floor area below the radiator reservior when you get to your car.

If so then time to change the radiator or reservior.

I would choose option 3. Its better for PML to check. I had the same problem, and PML changed the tank as it was leaking. A few days later, the light came back on again and I went back to PML. They found out that when they changed the tank, the piping was not sitted properly blah blah blah... but they changed it a 2nd time and it has been fine after that!

Cheers!

I second Azrielsc, hmm...what happened to you seems to bring back memories when my E36 had problems with its coolant. The reasons given by PML is exactly the same, but a step further, it failed the 3rd time, it came to the situation whereby PML recommended me to change my engine. Well It has been nearly 7 years already. So maybe things have changed.

Azrielsc have been lucky to get it right the 2nd time. My E46 had to tow back to PML 3 times!!!

First time was in Johor Baru where I have to contact Bavaria (BMW agent in Malaysia) who assisted me up to 2nd Link. Crawl back to Spore and barely make it to Raffles CC where PML tow truck took over the "dying" car. They replaced the tank but somehow rather, it cracked again

This time when I was in the PSA port and PML tow truck were denied entry. Took hours to obtain the proper authorization before the tow truck is permitted to enter

The 3rd time was worst. It happened on the 2nd Link bridge, "no man's land". The tow truck driver literally need to go home to get his passport before he can reach my car! :furious:

Enough is enough and I eventually sold the car. But Singapore owners, no worries, the unit was exported :yummie:

That was about a year ago and since no longer furious about it, I bought another BM :)
