Hello everyone

Hi all,

Need some help with my car but am unable to access the appropriate section due to insufficient rights or something like that.

Car is an E46 M3 and I have just performed a full service on the car, i.e. changing out all the fluids, filters, plugs and cleaned the air filter on Monday.

Wednesday/Thursday, car developed a weird problem. When idling with the air con off, the car has a random burble/stumble, I think it is a misfire. Checked with workshop and no codes being thrown. When air con is turned on, there are no issues. Idle is constant and not searching, just an occassional pop from the exhaust which is very random, i.e., not rhythmic, sometimes happens every 5 seconds sometimes longer in between pops sometimes shorter.

I have no idea what could be the cause of this and am looking for people who have experienced similar issues and what steps were taken to resolve it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: Hello everyone

Thanks for the replies guys, my car's an 05 M3 cabriolet, blue in colour.

I have a few things which I will be checking, MAF, plugs and valve sensor, but it's really going to be like a stab in the dark. I was told that this is not serious but it's annoying as hell.

Was thinking it could be a coil pack but there are no codes and no SES light, so I don't think that's it. Thought it could be a fuel system problem, but then it should make idle rough and probably drain power through the rev range, so I don't think that's it.

Yup, the car's timing is through a chain, so I can rule that one out, hopefully.

Anyone else able to suggest where I should be looking? Dirty injectors? Please help, I'm at my wits' end!

Re: Hello everyone

Yup will be checking the idle valve out as well, hopefully the issue will be resolved.

Have to wait till Monday, till then, I'm going to probably go nuts thinking about this!

Re: Hello everyone

For those interested, changed 6 ignition coils and 6 spark plugs, seems to idle well now.
