Head-Up Display and Navigation

Just read from the latest BMW magazine. BMW is the first to offer head-up display and navigation in Singapore. BMW offers this programmable head-up display in the new 5 series. The technology allows the driver to take up and process important information without taking his eyes off the road, the information presented being selected from a list via the Control Display and offered on the screen according to specific requirements. Personal settings such as brightness are saved and recrded by Key Memory. The head-up display is able to present the following information also shown in part on the instrument cluster:
- Navigation instructions
- Instructions and information for the Active Cruise Control
- Current road speed (when chosen, this is the only permanet display)
- Check control warnings

Re: Head-Up Display and Navigation

Saw the HUD in the flesh at the recent PML tech talk for forummers. One word - no big deal. One juz gets to see a few faint words on the windscreen. The rationale is that HUD is a safety feature and keeps the driver looking ahead at the road instead of the instrument panels. My reply is one can't dart one's eyes between the instrument panel and the road, then probably the garang gabok type and shdn't be driving. Keke.

Re: Head-Up Display and Navigation

they should make the entire windscreen a HUD... then for navigation highlight the part where the driver is suppose to turn into... how often when you drive with GPS and you get a fork of roads ahead and you're not sure if you're on the right one because your gps only tells you turn right at the intersection ?

Re: Head-Up Display and Navigation

My SE can't give me a straight answer either...it's getting too damn bloody frustrating dealing with SEs who are not enthusiastic about what they are selling, and to think that some of us are paying that much to be receiving this level of service.

Well, think about what happens after you buy your BMW... It only gets worse

Re: Head-Up Display and Navigation

LOL...thanks dude....that's pretty comforting. I guess you're speaking from experience?

Re: Head-Up Display and Navigation

Pretty much so. I'm speaking from very current and recent experiences.

It would need exchanging the whole dashboard. I'm regretting it every day that I haven't ordered it. It'll be a MUST for my next BMW.
