Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

see above reply .... the gearbox is replaced by pml under warranty.
AFAIK, flush ATF + replace oil pan + reprogramming will minimize the issue to minimum.
if want 100% resolved the only method is to replace the gearbox (new or recon)

Have they managed to fix the jerk-stop?? Have the same problem on my E60. Looking for a solution other than a replacement.

Did you ever fix it? What did it cost? Did you replace or otherwise?? I have the same problems too, though have not yet run the thing into the ground yet. Cheeky PML identified the problem while under warranty, did a quick fix by re-programming it and now that it returns - now out of warranty - they say I have no choice but to replace the whole box at 8K!!!*&^%$^%

Ok just a quick update to the jerking/ surging forward problem. I had the car sent to PML for investigation and they cleared the EGS adaptation. They found no fault stored in EGS/ DME whatever they are. Right now, car does not display jerking/ surging forward characteristics... still monitoring and hope it stays that way.

Hi,

You sent ur car back to PML... must cost you a bomb for labour cost???

Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

I've the same issue and sent to PML to check and they told me I need to replace my "footwell" module which cost $850. Did any bro out there have the same reply and did you managed to find a cheaper alternative?

You are right. Labor charges were $250. So far so good. No jerk or surge.

Why do they tell different people different solutions and different charges for the same fault? Like I said, they reset and cleared the adaptations and so far so good.

Not sure. I left the car for 5 days when I was on an overseas trip last week. I suppose 2 days to do this job.

Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

did you guys try the throttle adaptation reset? there's a method to do that (plug key, start w/o stepping brake, floor accelerator for 30s, press start again, wait 30 secs, start engine)

Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

Hi guys,

i am 3 weeks into driving my used 2008 Pre-FL 320i, mileage at 26K.
Today, I went into Service Centre to asked about my jerk-stop problem.

The tester asked me if this bmw is my first, i said yes.
He took over the wheels, tried a few stops, all with jerk motion.
He went on to imply that this is simply "BMW-ish", different from Japanese cars smooth braking.
In other words, i have to live with it.

Half-convinced, I requested a test drive of another unit. He let me test a year old 318i.
Yes, same jerk-stop.
I shook his hand, and left heart-sank.

Please guys, tell me this is NOT a BMW thing :(

...wah lau eh......

Yes tried that but no effect. The above-mentioned reset is transmission reset. I suppose resetting the EGS adaptations is a different thing.

No. Not a BMW thing. My jerk/ surge problem is now gone after they reset the EGS adaptations. Which service center did you go to?

Ok, look for this SA called Ram. Tell him about the jerk/ surge problem he reset for a 3-series SGD5115R during the week 13-17 Dec. He will recall.

Hope this helps.

Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

Any SA that says jerks before stop is normal is a jerk himself.....My car has the same problem but go away after paying PML for reprogramming...
