Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

Some updates.
1) the jerk seems to come back though not as harsh as before
2) fuel consumption same as before at 9.3km/l. Previously on 95 now on 98
3) will try to see what effect if I switch back to 95
4) yeah added an airscoop and drive seems better

124k liao. How to rectify gear slip? Believe not tranny issue since I never had any gear engagement issues.

what do you mean?

He meant jerks happens when the transmission is starting to have issues.

BTW from what I understand, Bmw transmission issues start with jerks followed by no engagement of gears. This will happen when the transmission gives way.

Well, that very much sums up the problem almost bimmer drivers are facing. From what I've read so far, even 5 or X5 drivers feel this jerk once in a while, and I mean new cars.

How hard is this jerking? I assume it's much harder than the usual downshift jerk? I read that the 5-series transmission slam is so hard that it feels like the car got rear-ended.

is the F10 transmission any better than E60?

For me, not that bad. Just a soft surge forward whenever car comes to a halt. I have also written to PML and they have called me to send car down for them to check. It did not appear that the service advisor was surprised about this issue, quite clear that they know about it.

Hmmm seems like bimmers got a lot of problems swept under the carpet.. wish they were honest like Volvo.

Well good luck on this, and I hope they resolve this soon (and cheaply!). Keep us posted ya?

My gearbox problems started with the soft surge forward when coming to a halt, then to a harder surge, then after awhile, gearbox will go bonkers while you are revving up to the redline, it will rev then suddenly shift up then shift back down. Then when u r stuck in a jam, driving slowly, the gearbox will jerk hard during shifting. Then while more you will notice reverse gear will take abit more time to engage, then final moment comes when reverse gear can no longer engage. This process took ard a year to complete.

so, did you successfully solve the problem or live with that :shakehea:

PML had my gearbox replaced under warranty. Now its smooth as silk just like when it was brand new :)

Re: Had engine tuned and "jerk before stop" is gone

what is your milleage when pml replace the gearbox under warranty?
isn't pml warranty coverage is 100k/3year whichever comes first
if the gearbox "likely" to die at 80k i must cheong till 80k before 3 years

But jerking before stop is associated with gearbox right? I am having this irritating issue and hopefully my 4th attempt at Khang's Auto will finally kill this issue. They claimed they knew what went wrong, took 3 weeks to indent some parts from Europe and the parts just arrived.. so I am really keeping my fingers crossed...

Have they managed to fix the jerk-stop?? Have the same problem on my E60. Looking for a solution other than a replacement.

Did you ever fix it? What did it cost? Did you replace or otherwise?? I have the same problems too, though have not yet run the thing into the ground yet. Cheeky PML identified the problem while under warranty, did a quick fix by re-programming it and now that it returns - now out of warranty - they say I have no choice but to replace the whole box at 8K!!!*&^%$^%
