GT wing to recommend?

Hi all, i'm looking for a detachable GT Wing for the sole purpose of generating downforce. My car is an E46 sedan. Do you guys have any recommendations? pics?

1. the GT wing must be detachable. It will only be installed at track sessions.
2. this is not for cosmetic purposes. it's job is to create downforce (for corners like sepang turn 5,6,7,8)
3. not too bloody expensive.

since it's just a GT wing, any for those jap models will do right?

i'm running out of ideas to reduce laptimes. hahahah. pls help to contribute ideas for which GT wing to buy.

I think you should get some 3 or 4 way adjustable Ohlins, Motons, JRZ, etc. Some form of camber and toe control (if it exists), pick up some Milliken Bros/Valkenburgh books and then set the car up properly with corner weights before going to downforce. More to be had in the primary stage alone.

If you are saving money by going straight to downforce, it will still help but to much less of a degree esp in macro view. You are adding pressure to an already distorted (uneven) patch and getting less traction than you should be for that degree of extra loading. More wing to compensate and get desired change, more drag everywhere. You could without penalty pick up everywhere, if patch was optimized from the start.

Anyway what does your car feel like mid-corner T5? If it is already understeering under some pretty quick throttle application in whichever gear you take T5 at, then the wing isn't going to help cept for time attack type laps which will leave your front tires overheated.

Re: GT wing to recommend?

mid corner turn 5, understeer and vehicle direction is controlled by throttle. 5 into 6, it's an unpredictable under or over depending on entry speed, steering input and vehicle positioning. so a wing should help stabilise these areas, increasing predictability.

Re: GT wing to recommend?

dude,

get the acs or hamann.. i read somewhere and choose to ignorantly believe that they were tested in wind tunnel and shud be more functional than for looks alone.. though there are not easy to uninstall, unless u dont mind having the pillars jutting out awkwardly..

btw, i had the acs gt, i works great on highways.. makes the m-tech lip a joke! even tested the replica acs gt, works as well as the ori.. hehe.. took it out before i tested sepang the other day.. would install it back before i hit sepang again.. gud luck with the search and faster lap-times..

p/s: any update on the parts yet?

You're right... a wing in the 5-6 transition will bias any oversteer tendency back in the direction of understeer (though it may not absolutely get there), and light understeer back to heavier understeer. However, driving consistency can overcome the unpredictability and for free too! General statement on driving, not specific to you, but the situation.

I maintain that getting the shocks and camber settled first will drop more laptime than just a wing and also provides a better base on top of which to add downforce later on, should you choose to.

All the best! :)
