GPS + laser gun detector

Re: GPS + laser gun detector

AFAIK, Radar detector is jailable.

I remembered reading from papers quite a while back that someone was jailed for possessing it in the car when the TP did a check on his car.

Don't bother getting a laser detector.

Today's range of radar detectors are equipped with laser detectors. However these are not effective due to its context. The radar detector is mounted in the car and the laser will have to be shot at the radar detector's sensor in order to detect the laser.

The problem with this is that the laser will be aimed at the licence plate of the vehicle reason being that the licence plate is the most reflective part of the body. Hence there is a 50-50 chance that the police might accidentally aim at your radar detector.

There are other radar detectors from Beltronics which incorporate the stealth kit which enables you to fix a sensor at the licence plate and mount your radar detector at the bonnet. The problem with this set up is that even if the sensor is now mounted at your licence plate, the moment the laser hits your licence plate, the time frame from which the laser hits the licence plate, rebound and goes back to the laser gun is almost immediate. Hence the time frame of approximately 1-2 secs is not enough for you to slow down from whichever speed you are doing unless you are 1-5kph above the limit.

I am using the RX65 from Beltronics in Perth which is able to detect k, ka and x band and so far the KA and K band works well. As for laser, I have never detected a single one even when the cop is aiming at me.

Today's Radar Detectors are RDD compliant.

If you do intend to use it, the laser detection on radar detectors are useless. You simple do not have enough time to slow down.

Interesting facts that you need to know about Laser Guns.

Laser guns are not 100% accurate. In fact even hidden speed cams using ka bands are liable to 3% error. They require calibration every year. When used in terrain with lots of steel structure or intense topographical feature, readings will be off the scale. A test has been done where a car was doing 60kph and the laser gun read 170kph.

The police knows this very well but insist that their laser guns are accurate regardless. So in future if you got zapped and you are absolutely sure that you weren't speeding, do appeal for it.
