still think that the lipstick nokia phone is worse. at least you dont have to sms on the idrive.

Re: GPS and iDrive

I find the GPS system in the e65 incomplete. It is also quite tedious to use via the iDrive.
For example, it does not have a full database of say, individual HDB flats and strangely, though it has a database of primary /secondary schools, I am unable to find anything on polytechnics or the universities.
I just hope that the next version ( DVD based? ), would be more complete. Any idea when it may be available, if it is going to be available at all? PML does not seem to know anything.

Re: GPS and iDrive

I believe the new DVD Pro Nav is now available for the 5 series and the E90.

Pro Nav also comes with voice activation, so you should be able to do some stuff by talking instead of always turning the wheel.

Re: GPS Nav for E46 Sedan

Anybody familiar with the pricing for PML GPS Nav for a E46?
Or pricing if imported? I am not referring replacement HU type of slide-out LCD
but replacing the who console control panel.

Parts alone approx Euro 3000, may be cheaper if you get 2nd-hand on ebay. Main issue is wiring harness. Heck lot of work. And the feature content is not value for money. Last I asked in PML, the parts alone was S$7k.

Re: GPS Nav for E46 Sedan

I called PML today and spoke to Steven, the parts man. He said that the Nav system for the e60 and e90 is stilll the old CD format. As for the DVD...don't know when it will be released.
I heard that the local Mercs' GPS system is DVD based isn't it? so what's BMW waiting for?

Hey Raddon, u said that u download the stuff from the website that u stated. What is it that u download? Latest Singapore maps? can it be used for our present NAv system? DVD or CD format? Thanks

I just went to that website but it s open to members only. How can I get to join as members?

Re: GPS Nav for E46 Sedan

Yeong,

What I d/l is the latest software...I do believe you have the MKIV version thus you can upgrade to the latest v.25 now.

As for the 3D maps..only avail thru SG...perhaps if you know of anyone in Siemens, they can hook you up. They apparently do the maps

Re: GPS Nav for E46 Sedan

Rad,

Plse forgive me for being dense.
U download the updated Nav software version, but how do u load it into yr car?? Don't u need some serious hardware to talk to the car via the OBD port?
How do u make use of this updated software?

You just clone it onto a DVD and insert it....the system automatically does it 4 ya. Rem dun turn the ignition off at ANYTIME until the screen prompts you...esle you can literally FRY your chip

Re: GPS Nav for E46 Sedan

Insert it into the place where you put the map CD..and it does the work for you...your key must be in the 1st position tho....to activate the system

Re: GPS Nav for E46 Sedan

You may need to pop in a CD that contains the keys. So make sure you burn a copy of the CD key, in case it ask you for it at the end of the upgrade. OBC will ask for it but in german. Should be avail. in the nav forum as well.
