Good 10" Freeair woofer advise needed

:helpp!: Been trawling the net and it seems nowadays, not many manufacturers manufacture free air subwoofers.

Used twin kicker f10c for my last setup many years ago and was very happy with the sound. Just transferred them to my new car and it seems to be bottoming out.

Upon further inspection, realised that time had made the cone sink  and probably the voice coil is also a little damaged.

There’s also some piak piak :furious: sound way before the levels get excessive.

Was recommended a pair of Morel elate sw10. Never used morels before so trying to get somebody to chime in about their experience using this in free air configuration.

Any good recommendations for a good 10” freeair subwoofer would also be greatly appreciated. If its shallow mount, even better.

Oh, by the way, im running the woofers with about 400 wrms of power from my amp and it take impedances down to ½ ohm.

I paralleled the 2 4 ohm voice coils the last time to give my amp 2 ohms bridged.

Thanks for looking and contributing.:D

Bro, I used the Morel Elate SW10 on free air. Have some punch but don't really go low enough to give me a decent low sub bass. Now using a SeasLotus in a sealed box. Overall much better than the SW10 on free air. Tighter punch and can feel the lower bass. IDmax is also one of the good sub but heard no installer bring in locally.

If free air is a must, probably u can consider use the Legatia L8 which is designed for freeair install since you are using it tweets n mid :)

free air needs alot of power...and its hard to control.
IDMax is available...if u know the right people... :)

Re: Good 10" Freeair woofer advise needed

L8 has got good reviews....but as far as i know (limited knowledge to be honest), it is not so much a subwoofer per se, but more of a mid-bass kind of sub... some people wud put it in the front cabin or kick panels as part of a 3 way set-up...

i heard it can go very low...but never heard it myself.

i suppose if scott buwalda says its good ... who am i to challenge that.

Hmm.... thanks for the tip, still awaiting some replies to come in and then will make decision.

No replies still, so sticking to my F10c for the moment.

I heard some great auto bass 8"/10" units; JBL and Kicker (V convex center) recently. Power source from Pioneer or Alpine sub bass power amps.
