Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

i've been looking into a few cameras that could I could potentially use at the track.

had a few questions that maybe useful to others too:

is it just me or does the lens have a fish eye effect?

does the camera have a viewfinder so you can frame the shot?

how is it mounted and what is the power source?

what size sd card does it come with and how many minutes of video does that equate to?

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

The resolution of this unit is very good but are those sample videos on the Eureka's website recorded @ 1280x1024 @ 8fps or 640x480 @ 30fps?

does this record when car is parked (vandals) or when car is moving (road incidents)?

can tap power from cigarette lighter. if car is running, will continue to record.

with no external power, internal battery lasts ~3.5hrs

i will use this to record when i'm moving.
for parking purposes, it will record ~3.5hrs. so if u looking for overnight footage, this will not be your solution

1> you are right. it's wide angle lens.
Camera Angle
2.0mm wide-angle lens; 105° viewing angle

2> no viewfinder
if you prefer one with viewfinder, maybe you can try
Creative Vado HD Pocket Video Camera - Capture high-definition 720p videos

3> comes with those suckers to mount on windscreen; internal battery ~3.5hrs or tap from cigarette lighter

Approximate Recording Time
memory-vs-timing-477.png
* Recording time is proportional to the capacity of the Micro SD card.
* Recording time may be different according to the scene of recording.
* Recording time will be shorter for higher recording frame rate or higher resolution.
The table above only serves as a general guideline.

good question. i didn't notice it was 8fps at 1280x1024.

any expert can shed some light?

thanks

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

  • 4 modes of recording resolution :1280x1024 @ 8fps;
    1280x1024 @ 2fps; 640x480 @ 30fps; 640x480 @ 2fps
gee there is no 720p option which would have been ideal...8fps can be choppy...but if the demo videos are 640x480 i will be happy to accept it.

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

I'm really keen if the sample videos are taken @ 1280x1024 @ 8fps and still look so smooth. 640x480 is kinda low res

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

Thanks.

Any idea what is the power consumption like for this unit when operating ? if not too high, car battery will not hurt for over-night operation.

:)

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

Hi Jeffery, thank you for calling me to enquire on our car CCTV/camera products. I come into this forum, or other any forums, not to sell or promote our products, but to survey market incentives/needs and share information. Hope I don't get ban for lurking around or sharing too much.

As I was looking through this thread, I see a mix of objectives by different forumers here.

Some want a simply, single or double camera system that is used for driving incidents only; some want a complete system that records 24/7 like a full-pledged CCTV system.

BIG QUESTION: How far? How wide? How clear?

Basically, in getting any video system, we need to understand what we want to achieve; evidence for car accidents or general surveillance for vandalism. There is a distinct difference between these 2 needs as the hardware needed to achieve either is very different. But it all boils down to angle of coverage, resolution and frame rate which I summarise below:

- For driving: narrower angle (60 degree or so), acceptable resolution (720 x 576 or better), acceptable frame rate (4fps or better)

For accidents, the first and single most important consideration is frame rate as things happen very fast. Resolution is not much of a concern until impacts happens. But by that time/distance, even a 640 x 480 resolution will be able to see the license plate very clearly. So resolution is secondary but must be acceptably clear. For angle of coverage, that depends on where you want to cover and that is the least of the consideration (and cost).

By saying so, it is then obvious that for vandalism, angle/area of coverage will be the most important, followed by resolution and then frame rate as vandalism happens very close and very slow.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if both objectives can be achieved?

Best regards,
Jason Ho

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

By the way, is your price of S$360 including shipping and taxes? If it does, it is indeed a good deal.

Otherwise, you may want to consider individual purchase. The discount offered by the supplier may not be good enough to cover the import tax of 7% (goods cost plus shipping). You might be able to avoid this by buying individually and keeping the total cost

Re: GB : High Resolution Car Video Camera @ $360

Hi guys,

Just to enquiry, would there be any interest if there is a better specification recorder (1280x720p@25/30fps, 105 degree angle, low lux camera, sd card), disguised in a square 135 x 135 x 128mm tissue box? Supports motion detection and schedule recording. It dispenses tissue as well.

This can be hard wired to your starting battery as it only consumes 230ma per hour.
