Think you might want to completely run in your car first... your fuel consumption will stabilize then.

Hi MRacer,

That's what I am planning to do at the moment. I used to drive the Audi Quattro Manual and never run in the car and it drinks alot.

Cheers.

The consumption should come down as the car is being run in. At the point of collection the OBC was showing 14L/100Km. Now after about 5k, it had dropped to 11.3. I am not sure if you think this is low enough, but I think it is a fair number for a 2.2L engine. My previous 1.6L was running at 10.5. 70% highway BTW.

Hi ED520/Tategoi,

Wonder why you guys are getting better consumption than me. Mine's reading abt 14.6 now with 2.3K mileage. BTW, do u have any of the engine stalling problem and did PML uploaded some software upgrades?

Cheers.

maybe it will improve as u progress, my mileage is at 11.5k now. it also depends on how u drive(heavy foot etc) n on wat kind of roads u drive more often (stop go traffic or e-ways).

yes i exp the stalling prob n pml seemed to hve fixed it with a software upgrade, but i still exp the jerking prob w the car. did u get this prob?

Hi Zag,

Wish I can join you guys but have some guests in town this Sat. Hopefully next time around and we can still keep in touch in the forum.

Cheers.

Mine is a E39 but ever since I changed to UUC Pulley system, it seems I have improved low-end pick-up power and better fuel efficiency since.

I was initially complaining abt higher fuel consumption but now it seems I getting the reverse. Will continue to track and update.

Disclaimer: Not in anyway related to or promoting the UUC Pulley system. There's a write-up thread somewhere on this forum.

Hi DS 1,

I am using the underdrive pulley from UUC too. Maybe I haven't really run in the car yet or maybe I am driving only about 30% highway.

Let's hope it'll improve after running in.

Will update when I get more miles............

How often does your engine stall? This warrant a complete investigation from PML. Fortunately I have not experienced any stalling yet. I have not gone back to PML since taking delivery of my car in early July, and my car is of Mar 04 production, so it should still be running on pre-v12 software.

Hi Dan, what is your consumption like? and percentage of highway vs start-stop.

I am around 12L/100km for a 1 year old E39. My spread is about 50-50.

I believe anything between 12L to 13L/100km is a fair consumption for the e39 520i. In fact, I would say 12L/100km is good. I am chalking almost 15L/100km for my e39 525i :(

When I got my car last month, within a week the engine would stall upon ignition occassionally. After PML loaded an "upgraded" software, it got worst. It doesn't stall upon ignition but when slowing down making a tight turn. Almost had an accident doing a U-Turn when the car stalled with oncoming traffic! PML then loaded another software but I realised they are actually pumping in more gas when the car stops or making a full turn. Also they've increased the idle rpm slightly.

There's nothing wrong with the engine I am sure but it's more on the management system between the active steering and the transmission. The car's running OK now but I am still not pleased with the hestitation of the gears not being able to down change when slowing down to make a slow turn between 20-40km/hr. You can fully depredd the accelerator and the car's still not moving unless you release and depress again.

PML said that there's nothing they can do at this moment. I am not please definately and I am going to see them tomorrow to get things straighten out.

BTW, does your car comes with Active Steering?

i also had the car stalling upon ignition thing, but it got fixed with the new software.
the jerking prob feels like the gearbox is unable to engage a higher gear when i am accelerating. this usually happens when i am moving off from standstill and i am accelerating. the car just shudders and jerks a couple of times and i got to ease off on the accelerator to prevent it frm jerking further....did u exp such a prob?

Mine seems to the opposite where the car's not changing to a lower gear when slowing down or slowing down to make a turn.

Yes, it comes with Active Steering. What is E60 without Active Steering? :) But again, my Active Steering not very active, I have experienced a few occasions whereby the Active Steering is Faulty!

I've heard that those w/o active steering are doing well. This software problem is really P***ing me off! Anyway, I am looking forward to collect my Cooper S next month to compensate for the loss of fun since getting the 5!
