Is this well known tuner located in a town beginning with the letter B, and the company name begins with an A?
If so, it is not a tuner, but rather a low volume manufacturer in German parlance. Just keeping the record straight.

hmmm..... very interesting... would LTA notice a swap from a 2.5 to a 3.0 M54?

Short of checking the engine number (as distinct from the chassis/VIN), it would be all but impossible to tell a 3.0l M54 from a 2.5l M54 by a simple visual inspection because the blocks are the same. It is just the bore and stroke that are different.

But swapping from a 2.5l to a 3.0l hardly seems worth the monetary outlay since the performance uplift is not that huge. If you started off with a 2.2l, then you'd be talking.

Alpina in Buchloe was selling off a whole bunch of M54 3.0l at 3.000 Euros a few months back because they were putting in their hopped version of the N52 R6 into their B3 and Roadsters (using Z4's as donor cars). The only catch was that if you wanted to buy one from them directly, you had to get your BMW dealer to process the transaction. I wonder what PNL's answer to such a request would have been?

Re: Fs : M54 3.0 L

I never get the impression that I need to go through a BMW dealer from my correspondence with Alpina (Germany). Maybe I was mistaken???

Alpina have no problem corresponding with anybody. Herr Christopher Kratzer is more than happy to answer all your Alpina related questions, like offsets, wheel weights, how Switchlogic works, etc.

It's only when you actually try to buy something from them that you find out you have to involve a BMW dealership. Unless you're in a league of your own that is. Or go directly to Buchloe. I'm sure you can tar pau their watches, scarves, or maybe even wheels.

I'll be passing by Buchloe on either 19 or 23 Sept, before or after my Advanced and Intensive M3 Training in Salzburgring, so I'll see if they'll do major tah pau as well. I'll see if I can buy their current 99 Euro special, a complete LHD or RHD OE Z4 3.0l exhaust system from downpipe to chrome tips. Maybe Louis might be interested in one for his Z4. Just pay for my chiropractic fees, and overweight luggage charge.

You want me to check on the order status of your RHD B5 or B7? I'll pretend I'm from Japan or Dubai.

Re: Alpina's policy

6spdMan,

you don't have to run there to buy one, you can tar pau from me. only 3mths old, demounted at 3500km mark. but then again, why would you need a OEM Z4 exhaust?

No doubt you're referring to your OE muffler, which is now surplus to your requirements. The Alpina sale has a lot more bits in it. Go to alpina.de under closeouts. Pound for pound, its a hell of a deal, if you're into that kind of thing.
Thanks for your kind offer, but I have enough E60 parts to stock a booth at the next automotive flea market. Besides, I already have a big turtle shaped OEM muffler sitting in my MIL's store room since the SS muffler was installed a while back.
