Front and rear camera help

Hey guys, I went to a shop looking to install front and rear camera and was told that if I did not use BMW Ace camera there will be a battery error and ECU fault code. And the only solution to put any other type of cameras would be to have an external battery. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm sure not everyone driving a BMW is using the manufacturer's Ace camera right?

Yup a camera without external battery will eventually have a BMW warning about increased battery drain. However this only happens if your camera is wired to be a 24hr continuous recording whilst car is NOT running.

To avoid this either get a external battery or wire it up as working only when the engine is running. Alternately increase the minimum voltage before camera is automatically shutdown to prevent this msg. Carousel has plenty of external batteries for sale just search iroad or cellink or just external car camera battery.

Bumping this.. just bought an F34 which is out of warranty and the car camera is faulty. I think is car eye version 1.
PML said no repair can be done as it's phased out can only replace with new car eye which is $1.6k lol
I've not used car eye before so not sure if it's any good. Recon sets can be had on carousell for $300-400? at the same time iroads/blackvue is also an option around same. So just checking is it worth car eye or just get any other brands.

Don’t get Car Eye it’s a piece of junk. as soon as my warranty ended , i went for a better Korean brands like iRoad X10.
