Just to share 2 value for money mods that have been discussed in various BMW forums overseas.
The CDV really restrict the flow of brake fluid and you feel it most when you shift from 1st to 2nd gear, somehow from 2nd thru 6th is not as bad. It makes the already difficult 2nd gear jerky. Release your clutch too quickly and you get a jerk, release slowly for a smooth change and you lose time :furious: . There is NO WAY you can dump your clutch when you still have your unmodified CDV.
This site explains the restriction of CDV and which are the models affected.
CDV
As they do not have a modified CDV for me, I bought one from PML and moded it myself.
Rodney of R2D did the change for me this evening. Man, I was surprised that he did it so quickly. Very professional and great attention to details as usual. He said if he was me, he would just do a CDV delete
but I KS, put in a modified CDV instead.
Special thanks to:
SwordFish who helped me pour the brake fluid when Rodney was under the car bleeding the brake fluid (getting rid of air that had entered the system).
Hugo39 who stood at the side to relay messages from me to Rodney and the other way round... (I was in the car pumping the clutch pedal
)
This is what my car's CDV look like
With the restiction removed from the CDV
With restriction removed from the CDV (plan view). The CDV itself has a 5mm opening, the restriction narrows the opening to 1mm :yikess:
If you are still have your unmodified CDV in your car,.... mai tu liao... rush down to R2D to get it removed or modified!! It will probably improve your lap times
Heel & Toe Pedal Mod
Maybe I am not as flexible as some of you out there... doing heel and toe in my E90 can be a pain if I follow Takumi's method of heel on the gas pedal and toes on the brakes... my achilles tendon will hurt. Maybe because the brakes are too effective or maybe the brake pedal is too high or maybe the gas pedal is too low. Try to do or practise HnT in slow speed and my car will E-brake
. Works only on high speed.
Decided to change my HnT method to rolling my right foot left to right. Big + 2nd toes on brakes and last 2 toes on gas. Now I have a different set of problem, all my driving shows are now too narrow to straddle both pedals....
Surfed E90 forum and found ULTIMATE PEDALS. Eureka!!
Ordered a gas pedal with top left extension from them and had it fixed at R2D today too!
Beautiful 5mm thick solid aluminum pedal and great job by Rodney fixing my pedal!!
This is the pedal
The amount of extension
Cheers and hope the above mods are useful for you manual BMW drivers
