Fog at both my Xenon headlights

Hi readers

Just collected my 320i E90 from PML 2 WKS ago,

Was raining heavily and my Xenon headlights were on when I discovered there is fog or condensation at the bottom corner of both headlights. The fog disappeared after the headlights were off for 45mins.

Wondering of ppl here has similar problems? Very worried if there will be further implications to the car's electrical circuitry.

Contacted my SE, she will get back to me. :juggle:

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

actually it is quite common to see some condensation in the headlight housing when the car is new...

usually they will go away after a couple of weeks...

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

Thanks Hendry for the reply

I was told exactly the same from the technical peeps from PML. They offered to run a test and check if I need.

Will monitor the situation and keep everybody informed.

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

Hey bro,

How is the fogging issue? Any updates? Did the technical ppl get back to you on this? I am awaiting delivery of my 320i next week also with the Bi-Xenons, would like to know whats the issue about and how to handle this issue should I encounter it. (Touchwood!) Thanks

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

The fog issue is tricky, the technical peeps claimed that it is pretty normal for new cars. but are supportive for a test and the SE can fix up an appointment anytime.

Anyway the fog is cleared once the temperature and humidity difference becomes not too large. I have yet to encounter an another similar situation of heavy rain with heated Xenon. So have to keep monitoring.

My friend who just bought the same car has similar fog happening on that same very wet night. Anyway its under warranty so Good Luck.

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

Okie thanks bro, will monitor mine also upon collection. Now is monsoon season, should be able to simulate the same conditions. hehe

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

yah... it's really quite a common problem...

have seen that on at least 3 new cars during collection at PML

Wow, Thats really bad. Anyway I be collecting my E90 this coming Friday evening man! yeah!

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

Delrosa,

Ok... just my 2 cents worth... since you are collecting your car.

the water condensation in the headlights is not a major concern. Even if you find it there... they will ask you to drive with your headlights on, and it will disappear... and it will, so no worries there...

But what i discover is that recently the grooming from PML is really terrible. I broker cars for fun, so i do at least 1 PML delivery a week, and i have seen a lot of it.

In some cases, the swell marks are just too terrible to be accepted. Over the last 3 months, I have experience about 5 cases of swell marks that needs to be redone.

Even my own ride, which i collected a month ago, has a scratch at the boot, so deep that my groomer says, there is no way it can be removed without repainting...

If you are collecting at the sime darby center, and it is not raining, i suggest that you drive the car out to the open and check. Best is if you can ask to collect in the afternoon where the sun is bright. The lighting at the place you collect your car is terribly dim. And remember, the SE will you, once the car goes out, it is considered collected and they will not repair and faults after that. But that is bullshit, get him to move with you, as long as you don't clear the security guards, the car is still theirs.

Take a bright torchlight with you... just in case it is raining, like when i was collecting mine.

I won't worry about the electrical parts that much, because those are covered by warranty... but paintwork is not.. and often hard to dispute.

Lastly, it is a damn fun car to drive... so Enjoy it... if there is any faults, get get it fix, don't like it destory your joy in the machine!

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

The fogging problem is common so there's no need to worry. Once I left my E90 untouched for 3 weeks and the fogs appear on the Xenons, but it cleared itself after a few days.

It's been a year since then and there is no problem at all! So no worries!

Hi Henry,

Thanks for your assurance on this, as for the scratches, my SE called me yesterday to highlight that there is a hairline scratch on either the right or left hand side of my car and asked whether I want them to rectify it or not. I said yes then he said delivery will be delayed by 1 to 2 days cos they need to polish again. Bull shit man, how come need so long? If its just a hairline scratch, why cant they just polish it off then deliver it to me? Sometimes really wonder what their in house groomers are doing. Simply not interested in their jobs man.

Re: Fog at both my Xenon headlights

hahahh... well

you should have brought this up earlier...

if you are that kind that dump the car to the groomer 5 mins after collection, you shoudl collect the car and let your groomer touch it up...

In place of the scratches, get the SE to give you some petrol voucher to make up for it... or a free key pouch... or... well there are many freebies they can get...

but if you are not that kind that goes straight to the groomer... then perhaps it is nicer to get it done properly...

Hi Bro,

I collected my car last fri evening, went around to check the whole car, found no scratches so I believe their guys touched up on the scratches. Anyway I got those mobile groomers which I had quite a good experience with my previous car and did the grooming at my place yesterday which was sun. Overall, now car all shiny and the water simply flows off the paint work. Very happy with the result. Yeah!

Also since last fri till now, been under heavy rain with my Xenons, did not find any fogging since fri till now. But what I encountered is my rear lamps, the edges got water vapour man......knn....haha, will go back PML to make some noise bout this.
