thats where the problem is... i went to my regular sound workshop and they realised there was no space to mount the woofer! and difficult to fit Z4 speakers with aftermarket... cos I wanted to bring over my sound stuff from my EVO - they all didnt fit!

Same problem, expensive car, lousy sound system.
I put in new front door speakers, replacing the stock speakers with Focals and had the tweeters mounted on the front shelf, discretely in the corners.
Big improvement on the sound stage, especially using the radio, but it is still a bit tinny, lacking deep base. Things improve with the volume turned up, but not at lower volumes.
Without spending a fortune, this is about as good as it will get.
BTW, be careful, the supplier fitting the speakers triggered the airbag warning light on my system and I had to get the system checked and reset at BMW - took 4 hours or so and cost $70 (paid by the ice fitter), but could have been a lot worse had the airbag wires been cut.

This is my 3rd bimmer and each time i try to port over the old ICE into the next car, it wont fit due to size. So end up buying new speakers. So never ending story.
E60 sound is much much better than stock E46 and E39. That is why my old set is still sitting in a box cos i dont want to spend anything more than install fee.

Had mentioned this to the SE at PML before. They say most owners rather not pay extra for sound system :-(
The Harman Logic 7 system is very good... About $5000 extra I think. But think 'bout it, you spend more time in the car than probably anywhere else (apart from office chair or bed). If can spend $$ on plasma TV, hifi at home, IMHO $5000 maybe isn't so ridiculous.
Was living in the States couple of years ago. Bought a E46 330 Ci. Comes with everything - xenons, sports seats / suspension, butt warmers, sunroof, + Harman Kardon ICE.
10 speakers + 2 subwoofers under the rear shelf. Wicked. Solid bass...
Only better I've heard so far is the Mark Levinson on the Lexus IS / GS. (Heard the LINN system on the Aston Martin is even better but beyond my league)
Sigh... Audi + Volvo at least has hifi speaker systems (8 to 10 speakers). Not top of the line but still something. E60 or E90 gives most basic 4 to 6 speakers with stock amp. Very very sad.
SMYUEN, thought the Z4s comes with the hifi Professional system with Carver tech?
Going to PML to test drive the Z4 today... will check that out in detail...
