This car is big news, probably one of Geneva's most anticipated large volume production cars. By all means, it's got one heck of a reputation to live up to, if it is to step out of the shadow of its two memorable (Mk. 1 & Mk.2) 'Rocco fathers from the 1970s and 1980s.

These pictures, brought to you by autoscoops.eu, are seemingly the first official photos of the Volkswagen Scirocco, which will make its debut in Geneva as confirmed by is appearance today on the official premiere list of the Geneva Motor Show. The car (pictured) bears a strong resemblance to the aggressively styled VW Iroc concept, launched in August 2006, although the front end has been slightly toned down.

What do we know about the car so far, then? Since the launch of the teaser minisite at Volkswagen Deutschland just a few days ago, new information has appeared and these are the main details we expect to see:
  • VW Group's 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder turbocharged engine
  • A 1.4-litre TSI producing 122 bhp/ 91kW and a TDI choice
  • Seven-speed DSG gearbox
  • Proper sport seats (Audi S/RS style)
Stay tuned for more details!

Re: First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

Ha ha .... good one, Mock. You had me fooled for a minute.

I like the looks of the new Scirocco. Much more sporty than the current Golf and seems to be roomier as well. Could this car hurt R32 sales?

Retention of the Scirocco name tag likely to pull a few heart strings with baby boomers who may have fond memories of this 70s classic.

Re: First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

Knowing VW, they will modify the car's platform to exploit every single niche in the market.

If necessary, by whacking on a Haldex style 4WD to give it better sporting credentials.

Look at how VW has shamelessly used the 2.0 litre TFSI engine in just about every market segment across all brands.

Looks like an Alfa 147!
+1................................

Re: First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

Alfa is a lot sexier. Even the (by now) old 147.

But I think a GTI platform based car with AWD will be great line up. Budget S3?

Wonder if the new STI will make any dents in this market?

Re: First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

u made me stare at the first pic for almost 5secs..hahaha

Re: First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

Front looks like a very smoothened version of a Mitsubishi Lancer with the nose extending out. Nevertheless, it looks nice.

Re: First Official VW Scirocco Photos Leak

Mitsubishi Colt from couple of generations ago. Feel the rear seats look kinda strange too; like mounting 2 fronts for the back. :)

Making its worldwide premiere in Geneva, Volkswagen’s Scirocco coupe will go on sale in Europe this summer with prices starting from 21,750 euros in Germany. VW will offer the 3door-coupe with three different gasoline direct-injection engines with power ranging from 122hp to 200hp plus a 140hp turbo diesel. We’ve already shown you the official images here and a video of the Scirocco here, so it’s time for live pictures from the German carmaker’s Geneva Salon stand. Just follow the jump to check them out. –Continued
