Re: Ferari 458 in flames

I think there's something about exotics going up in flames. It's the danger and bravado knowing you owning and driving a supercar which might just explode any moment that's the exciting part.

Re: Ferari 458 in flames

Suprising that there is no recall on ferrari/lambo so far with so many burning case.. Is it a design or maintenance issue? Insurance company should put pressure on the car manufacturer to get to the bottom of the rampant fire on these supercars.

Re: Ferari 458 in flames

25th Aug 2010.

Ferrari is launching an investigation into the causes of a small number of vehicle fires involving its new 458 Italia. The move comes as pictures of three separate 458 fires have circulated on the internet.

One 458 Italia in Paris, one in California and one in China have succumbed to fires which are now being investigated local Ferrari outlets with assistance from the firm’s base in Maranello. A further car was destroyed, amongst many others, in a warehouse fire at Heathrow airport.

A spokesman for the firm said, “Ferrari takes any incident involving one of our vehicles very seriously. The company is currently investigating the particular incidents in which vehicles have apparently been involved in a vehicle fire, and it is currently treating these as separate incidents.

Until these investigations are complete, Ferrari is unable to provide any further comment.”

Re: Ferari 458 in flames

Ferrari has determined the cause of the 458's that have caught on fire was from an adhesive that attached the heat shield under the rear fenders.
The heat shields were attached with an adhesive and became flammable under high temps. The new shield will be attached rivets, not any type
of adhesive. Every 458 produced will get this new part so call your dealer now and set up your appointment which of course is free of charge.

Ferrari is not taking any chances and will replace this part on every 458 italia produced to date. Kudos to Ferrari for discovering this issue as
this couldn't have been any easy find. Look for an official announcement from Ferrari within the next hour.
