Feedback on M3 for Sale

Hi All

Went to WCEGA Plaza to see a Aug 08 M3.

Used BMW M3 Car for Sale in Singapore, Car Lingual - sgCarMart

Am interested but noticed quite many stone chips on front of car and windscreen. Seat bolsters on driver's side scratched.

Anyone can pm me if they know of the car's history? From the tires, it doesn't seem tracked but can't explain how a 18000km car can have that many stone chips. It's been there a while so I am suspecting there could be some history hanging over it.

Much appreciated.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

If you drive behind buses and trucks on a highway at speeds above 100kmh, stone chips are common. Just treat it as battle scars from vietnam war, quite macho.....some say.

You been to Vietnam war? Or you kenna Vietnam rose?

On a serious note, stone chips are common - one trip on North South Highway or a local drive behind some L or F cars with semi-slicks and you will see lots of stone chips on your front bumper, bonnet and windscreen.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

can always change tyres even if the car was tracked.....haha
normal day to day driving won't be with that many stone chips.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

I agree with you. So likely the car has been undergone some hard driving. I would really like to know what's the "worse case" for a car in this condition i.e. the risks I will undertake with impending ownership. Or are my expectations too high for a used car? Anyone knows the car's history? Thanks.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

used car can check chassis alignment, weld repair seems if any... many cases of backside or front kena accident then just weld on... with paint job cant even see the welding.. only clues are under the rubber lining, along window edge etc.. engine internal can b busted & only way to tell is start engine & hear funny sounds... M3 has unique idle sound so suggest u do research on this... well tats enuff spoon feeding from me LOL... the rest is common sense...

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

so long as engine dun tune until piangz can leow.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

u dun like car thats used go buy brand new one lor...

ppl buy M3 sure go and drive and enjoy mah... arbo buy and lose money just for u meh... his loss is ur gain...

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

1st thing on my mind is probably the shocks and suspension and mounts if we are talking abt whacking a car hard....other than that, its probably the hoses n stuff which is pretty normal cos most ppl will also change it cos those only cost a couple of hundreds.
other than that, as long as it has not been in any major accident, the car should still be quite good. its an m3 leh....supposed to be a performer car so its built for that purpose....keke

just my 2 cents.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

the owner must hv done B-Roads driving in a tight convoy or something. Highway driving can give u that too but probably not that bad.
So mileage is irrelevant factor.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

Actually, is M3 not a robust car? Even if tracked and driven hard for first few years, there should be no fear of the wear and tear, except, of course, accident(s).

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

You don't buy an M3 to drive at 70km/h. Car is obviously thrashed but I believe in the build quality. You should too. :)

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

i think that cars like the M3 are like race horses.
If you take a race horse and make it give horsey-rides to kids, sooner or later, it will go crazy or will wither and die.

same thing here.

so far, touch wood, i've not had any problems with my M, and on occasion i've driven it like, i think, it was meant to be driven (being thrashed is a subjective definition). my car is unmodified in terms of engine, suspension and brakes. i find that the car feels better after a long hard drive.

as yes, as satinghostrider has commented, my windscreen looks like the constellations. paintwork is not as bad cos i put on protective films.

stonechips are not an indicator of the mechanical condition of the car.
driver's side bolster worn, probably means it's a daily driver with an owner who either has a big ass (like me) or likes to sit close to the wheel.

having said the above, please do ensure that the car is accident free etc etc...

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

it's robust in my book but that doesnt mean abusive driving.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

Agree with edlms. M3 engine runs better the harder it works. It feels smoother and more responsive after a recent drive that went up to about 250km/hr. I would treat stone chips as souvenir from driving experiene. They can be avoided by putting some sort of plastic film on bumper.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

Besides stone chips, I still have memorable dead insect stains/scratches and also a bird's head-on-bang claw marks on my wind screen, accumulated from my frequent NSH runs. Everytime I wash my car, I make it a point to not remove those souveniors. Its like my car's curriculum vitae.

Without these and stone chips, I think I need a new account name like Ahguadriver instead of Ahbengdriver.

Re: Feedback on M3 for Sale

I have stone chips, had my windscreen also replaced from starry trips from NSH drives.

I would watch out for other issues like engine noises, rattling etc. The later model M3 S54 engines are pretty bomb proof. Except you have to have a check on your lifters/valve shims etc at inspection 2 for calibration.

I am usually more wary of a car with a nice coat of paint, then one with aged stone chips.
