Features that I never knew

I made a list of features that I so call "discovered" on my 318i for all just in case anyone do not know:

1) The "P" light on the gearbox is always on after we off the engine - never understand why BMW made this feature

2) After we off the engine, we can actually activate the head lights to shine on the road but its not on auto off so it will drain the battery.

3) If you do not press the Start/stop botton to off the engine, pressing the key to eject the key has no effect

4) if you put on hand brake without putting your gear to "p", the car chime to warn you that your car is "moving" or "going to move"

5) if you lock your car with the boot open and then take your stuff out from boot then after when you shut the boot, the lights will blink once.

and lastly the 50:50 distribution really helps when you try to acclerate and exit out from expressways. If anyone has more, do add on to the list ! Cheers! :)

Re: Features that I never knew

Well i recently learnt that the electric memory seat not only adjusts the seats, but the side mirrors as well ;)

6) if you lock your car with the boot open and then take your stuff out from boot then after when you shut the boot, the lights will blink once. If then u realize that ur key is in the boot, the lights will laugh.

I think thats called "coming home lights" and yes you can set the time in which they stay on after you lock your car. It supposed to help illuminate you pathway at night in really dark places.

I think this goes off after a few mins....when you exit and lock the car.

Re: Features that I never knew

if i am not wrong there's an option (maybe not here) that the rear view mirror has a motor so it will also be saved in yr seat memory

Re: Features that I never knew

1. the "P" light is meant for road side parking acting as warning light. it can be control by pulling the signal indicator stick.

4. if the gear is in Drive position, by pulling the hand brake, it's still possible to move or accidental accelerate.

basically, most features mentioned here are more for safety aspect;

as for seat and side mirror setting, you can set to your desired position with diiferent key, example yours and wifey.

you can open or close window with the remote key.

if with comfort access feature, you cant lock door with key left inside the car.

cheers....too many features to list...

Re: Features that I never knew

I have no contribution to add but wonder if our cars come with "got police in front, slow down" warning?

haha....good one, can put in radar detector or radar jammer but only works on camera and radar gun, can't on TP bikes

LOL - something similar happened to me recently. Although the lights did not laugh at me, I was cursing myself as I had to take a taxi home to get the spare key.

Re: Features that I never knew

yes.. the side mirrors can be individualised for each remote.. im sharing my bimmer and 2 remotes are in used.. so i can see for myself the mirrors and seats memory function each time when a different remote is used to unlock..

This goes off after a few minutes. It shows you that the courtesy power is still on. As a result another "undocumented" feature is that you can operate the windows for several minutes after taking the key out. :)

And another one:

If you tilt the driver side mirror down while reversing, the mirror returns itself to the original position after you turn off the engine. :)

The passenger side mirror on my car tilts downwards to show the kerb when I go into reverse gear :screwedu:

Bro,

probally you will only notice this feature if you had driven a jap car. i drove a 2.3 nissan and it tends to either over steer / under steer when you try to acclerate thru road interchages when exiting. However in our cars, the car is very stable and you can acclerate thru safely. Try it but check there is no cars behind or beside you first pleasse...

Re: Features that I never knew

nissan cars are very heavy forward as they have short engine bay to create more legroom for passenger/driver. thus the driver also doesn't sit between two wheels like the bmw. driver actually sits a bit forward. they are also much taller than bmw (again, to create more space for passengers)

i used to drive the latio and it is crap. if you accelerate, it understeers. to correct it, the solution is simple - get off the gas and it becomes oversteer.

and because of the high seating posture, i have aches in my right foot frequently since i drive east-to-west on PIE daily.

Dont you guys keep a spare key in your wallet? As in BMW cars comes with a rather flat spare key whereby u can keep in your pocket or even wallet. This key cant open your car door using remote but can open your car door manually (Slot in the keyhole), after which u can use the flat key to slot into a spare case (It's inside the compartment which is infront of your front passenger seat) which looks exactly like your normal key. Im not sure whether E90 has it but E60 does. Some call it a servicing key?
