danny - see? pilot's FC is quite comparable to your leh... so nothing wrong with your FC. just have to switch off the engine if you are going to be stationary for more than 5 minutes. confirm FC will improve!

think can aim for 170km for 1st 1 quarter.

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

"it's not the ride, it's the driver..."

Phil got no guts, milk15 said so... kekekeke...

danny, take him on. he'll just make it to the nearest pub, then you can go for a beer with phil. drinks on him...

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

Bro pilotsnoopy,
You mean travel at 90km will comsume more petrol?
100km is the most idea speed?
I used to travel most of the time at 90km to 90+km lei.

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

danny, do you notice at 80-90km/h the car seems to be in a labourious effort...where the revs and all has to be higher thus higher FC?...once you reach 100km/h i believe e car has reached the next gear and is sorta cruising...

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

Yes I agreed
ok bro,I will try to it and re-monintor the fc again.thanks very much for your precious advises.

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

danny.. my F/C is about 9-9.5km/l .. how i do it is i reset my meter everytime i pump full. tank.

60% urban 40% highway gives mi about 9-9.5

jus pumped up jus now... was about 10.. doing about 45%urban 55%highway recently..

i keep my foot super light but when road is clear i'll gun down it mayb 3-4 times a week..

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

recently i change to 18" rims from 16" one and FC dropped.
Use to get 150km or more for 1st quater mark, but now like at most 120km. Used to get 10+km/l, but now its more like 9

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

Ok, i checked this morning, i am on 378 at just under 1/4 tank. This week, pretty good, casue on weekend went on highway to meetup.

yes, changing to 18 will effect fc, but you look much cooler doing it!

Well.. if it helps you feel better :D

I'm running on 16" wheels.
And i'm in the 8-9km/L range. Serious.

Maybe its cos my engine is sludged up & dirty.

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

wow, jamers fc is pretty good lei and anyway Im not heavy footed kind, just normal cruising all the while.......dont know why???????and futhermore had done up ignition cap, insulation box and lots of improvement by Rodney lei.
Or could it be the stock 17" rims with 225 40 rubbers (model 115),Is the rims heavy???/:(

Hee, you probably forgot to mention that your right foot also gotten heavier with bigger rims :nehnehhh:

I get about 10L driving conversatively but once RPM goes up (advice from Jeff to clean spark plugs once in a while via higher RPM!), fuel gauge indicator goes down very quickly. Inverse proportional!

Re: FC comsumption for e46 318i

danny,
my E46 320 about same FC as yours, wanna buy my car anot?:nehnehhh:
But seriously, your FC normal.
Anyway, heck about the FC lah, it won't make much diff to your pocket, just enjoy your UDM, drive hard (and safe), that will do much good to your happiness

Can any e46 318i owners tells me wats the fc comsumption is like for your ride?
Im monitoring now and i knoe when I have pumped full tank and when it ltouches the 3 quater tank mark,my mileage hits 150km and comes to half tank mark it was about near to 300km.and to quater tank mark its about 400km.
So do you guys feels that its comsumption is high or normal?,please share your advises.and if is.pls advise wat to do with it for improvement of FC?
Im running on 17" rim with michelin PS2 rubbers and travelled most of the time about 80%highway and everyday have to wait for my wife with engine on for about 10 to 20 minutes.
Waiting for your precious advise.thanks

I dont think Im heavy footed la.
Ignition upgrade,Insulation filter box ,spark plug all already done up.
So I should guess our 318i can only fetch 8 or 8 point something km per litre, right?

Yo danny,
I've got the same car as yours, didn't do up my engine (stock), 18" heavy rims, and my FC is around 8km/l. 30% highway, 70% city driving.
Every quarter mark allows me to travel 100km.
So I think yours is pretty normal, no worries about it.
Only thing is that do turn off your engine while waiting. I wait for my wife 2 hours everyday with engine off. But then I sit at kopi tiam lim kopi, ha ha.
Hope the info is useful and puts you at ease.

cos I believe 100km/h is the optimum speed for the car's FC.

When I drive, I don't look at the RPM or speedometer. I look at the fuel consumption meter. And what snoopy said is true - that at 80km/h, the FC is no good, but at minimum 90km/h the FC is slightly better, and then at 100km/h it is even better.

Anyway, just drive with the fuel consumption needle pointing to 6L/100 km - that will be your optimum speed.

don't need to test lah, i've already done it.

will be more fuel efficient if you get to cruise speed as soon as possible and maintain that speed.

better still, engage cruise control whenever you can, but make sure you are familiar with how it works first. otherwise you'd be in for a rude shock when you need to disengage in a hurry.

but the cruise control is only for highway driving, do not try in city driving!

in the city, try to anticipate the sequence of the traffic lights - do not gun the throttle only to find you have to come to a dead stop at the next red light. try as much as possible not to come to a dead stop. cars are rather heavy things and overcoming the inertia to move your vehicle from stationary will require a lot of energy, and a lot of fuel. in other words, try to drive in such a way that you come to a dead stop a little as possible.
