F10 paddle shift question

To bros who drive F10 with paddle shift:

What happen when you tap the paddle shift when you are driving in D mode? Mine actually up/down shift even when gear shift is in D. And to go back to auto, I have to shift to S, then back to D again.

Is this normal? I mean, I all along thought that paddles only work when gear shift is in S.

Re: F10 paddle shift question

I know for E60 paddle shifts, thats exactly how it works as what you have described (no need to put to "S" mode for paddle shift to work). To go back to auto, either shift to S, then back to D or just wait for about 20 secs without doing anything, it will automatically go back to auto (back to "D" mode). The difference between putting to "S" mode to use paddle shift is that it will not jump back to auto mode even after 20 secs without touching the paddle shift.

My guess F10 should be the same.

Re: F10 paddle shift question

Hey bros thanks for the enlightenment!

Ok, so tapping paddle while in D actually go into S mode. I'm trying to think what's the rationale behind this 'design'; once you are in S manual shift mode you can't be doing nothing for the next 20 secs to move the car. So unless you are at a traffic light for 20 secs else the only way back is to shift gear to S and back to D. Hmm..

Better let my oc know else she probably red line all the way home..

Re: F10 paddle shift question

On the F10, when in D mode, using the paddles activates the manual or M mode, not the S mode. On the instrument cluster, the drive mode indicator will change from D to M1, M2, etc., depending on whichever gear was activated when you clicked on the paddles. Only way to get back to D mode thereafter is to shift to S then back to D or wait until the system automatically reverts back to D mode.

Its very useful when you want to downshift to overtake or for corners (especially when the car is in the 7th or 8 gear and there is little engine braking).

However, when overtaking, you need to be mindful not to simultaneously step on the accelerator to effect a kick down and use the "-" paddle. I have been caught out a number of occasions since there is sometimes a lag between stepping on the accelerator and kickdown. So, being impatient, I tap on the "-" and, voila, the kickdown happens. Tapping on the "-" paddle then induces a further downshift. This drops the gear too low, the revs climb very rapidly and you don't end up going any faster - dangerous. Forturnately, a tap or two on the "+" paddle solves the problem.

Don't worry, your oc will not redline all the way home :). Even if M1 is selected (when in D mode), the car will only redline for about 20(?) seconds before reverting back to automatic mode. Revs will then drop...

Re: F10 paddle shift question

Thanks to Nic & Calvin from BOSS, I swap my paddle-shift to the F10 model and it works wonderful :p

In "D", I can up & down shift with on-board computer showing "M4, M3...etc" few seconds later it went back to "D". Will monitor and update you guys.

Also thanks to BOSS on fixing up the rear brakes...its feels nice and safe now :)
