F10 Headlight Scratched!!

Hi guys,

My neighbour's car reversed into mine this evening and caused a 8-10cm scratch on one of the headlights cover, blurring that scratch out. Is it possible that a workshop is able to sand and polish it back? if not would have to change out the whole thing and anyone knows the cost to it? Eng soon?

Thank you in advance.

Before saying anything - Did your neighbor agree to pay for the damages ?

Yup, mentioned he would pay but doesn't sound very willing.:) Would try not to change off the whole thing but if appearance is compromised as in visually you can see there's damage done then no choice, have to change.

So am i right what you're saying here is there would be visible marks left behind if repair?

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

depends on how deep is the scratch. It will never be flawless anymore

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

Did your headlight got scratch with lens surface scrap off or scratch on top layer? Too deep polish also no use. You can patch with putty or acrylic. Remember if even you polish to restore , no more protection coating already It will oxidize and yellowish in few months time.

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

No way it can be fixed. Must change the outer cover at least.

Thanks for reply. You summarize it all, no way to be fixed. Possible to just change outer cover?

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

Changing outer cover may mean water leakage causing condensation inside. Only way is to change the whole headlight. Tell your neighbour it is BMW you are talking about here...

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

No part number for the cover. Must change whole light. Can get from eBay if u wanna help ur "unwilling " neighbor save money. If not just get from Eng Soon n show receipt with installation at some external workshop. Cheapest liao. Otherwise go PML, they will change both headlights n say its a set, plus car wash n need to change tyres just in case...

Unless his excess is very cheap, I dont see why he should claim

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

Claim lo. If the guy kbkp... you ask him if he wud claim if someone scratch his porky and merk??

Do protect yourself. If your neighbor backs out, even if you have solid evidence eg. video and photos that he backed into your car, I'm not sure if the 24hr incident reporting rule will affect your chances of claiming. Also, how trustworthy is this guy? Without video evidence, he may just decide to contest and say you knocked into his Merc.

Few months back, my car was reported for tint and car plate with ROV coming early morning for photoshoot(aft seeing my car camera, ROV guy came knowing the target, he drove straight to my car) with the likely culprit being this particular neighbour(as im on good terms with the rest), sometimes felt like returning the favor wiith a gaolat claim but here again, everyday gotta see each other so just swallow it down. lolol...

Thanks for your concern. It happened on friday evening and from what workshop mentioned, fri,sat and sundays accidents can be reported on monday. Correct me if wrong.

Correct, the 24 hours are working hours. Good luck.

Re: F10 Headlight Scratched!!

Play safe ...... Replace only after he gives you a cheque that cleared or cash. If neighbor does not want to pay ... Then claim ASAP.

Go take photo or video of his ride before claiming or before neighbor repairs their ride.

The scratch is quite bad.
