Re: F-series Multimedia Kit

Hi Guys,

Sorry to tell u guys, i've decided to play it safe and go with Soundwerks, just handed him my spare key ...

Reason being i gotta dekit all my audio equipment from my other car before selling and since i can't do it myself, i got to engage someone. And as i've heard lots about Soundwerks+Bimmers, i've decided to seek advice from Kelvin. I'm dekitting on Wednesday, and thereafter sent in my 523 (that's if SWC can return my car this week)

Things going into the Bimmer will be the Interface, Media Player to view pics & vidz thru my hard disk, and all the other normal audio stuff. Might put in reverse cam if don't cost much. Still want me to post photos? Let me know what specific detail u want and i'll try my best.

Still thinking if i should also get the bluetooth device to operate calls thru my steering. Is this thingy really good or it's just the same as all the other bluetooth/carkit device, fully of static, cannot hear, etc.? Can anybody pls feedback? Good or Bad, all much appreciated.

Thanks

Definitely...! camping for your pics of the install....if can show where the hard disk is going to be located and how the screen looks and controls of via the steering will be great! Do you have / considering GPS as well? if you are, is the "NAVI" button on the iDrive controller that should be used? The bluetooth works well!! thanks!

I view video files from a portable hard disk (stored inside glove box) via an RCA Media Player linked to the inteface to I-Drive. Controlling the media box can only be done with remote. All done by the friendly folks at Soundwerkz

Screen
The video screen is really small and being set in the dash, is far from being an idea monitor to view videos especially for the back passengers. And its only analog.

Media Player
I bought the RCA for $90 at Sim Lim. The vidoe/audio really sucks! coz its all coming out from a 3.5mm jack. I did my best to cut signal loss by costomizing and replacing the cables with slight improvement. But i decided on this sacrifice as this media box fitted so nicely into my cup holder slot and it can play all my file types (mkv, iso, avi, mpeg, rmbv, etc)

Rear View Cam
Since i have the interace in place, why not just slap on a rear cam..but now my license plate light looks funny coz the side where camera is installed only have a small light half the size of the original.

Bluetooth Handsfree
I have the basic model @ $700, no viewing thru i-drive, but can use steering buttons to pick, drop, redial, switch calls back to phone for privacy and volume control. Loud & Clear both ways. Auto bluetooth connect whenever u enter the vehicle so no hassle.

Any brudders looking for GPS + DVD, see thread below... it's really nice and all in HD.
