extractors for 6 cyc

Dear all

Would like to check whether any bros had changed the extractor before and is the gain significant enough to justify the $$$.

Thanks in advance.

Rgds

yep, if not wrong there is 2, 1 for 3 cyc

then you shouldnt change the extractors or your ecu will lean out your mixture. either that or get semi flow cats to replace those that are taken out of your stock extractors, either that or you have to recode your lambda sensors to take into account that they will read fouler air mixtures after your extractor upgrade.

looking at the hiop from J4car, my friend change the extractor of his 350Z & it did wonders, i thought if it is made for the car, there should not be any sensors problem then and check light will not appear

Hi there,

I didn't realise that ur car is running post cat sensor and suggested header. If u run post cat sensor, u need to have a high flow cat to avoid acheck light.

In any case, the hi-op header can come with the car but then think it's 3k plus... Not worth liao IMHO.....

there are products in the market and the net which simulate lambda sensors. these are cheap cheap little circuits that bluff your ECU that your lambda sensors are still detecting clean air, so the ECU wont go haywire. And then you can safely uninstall your post cat sensors.

The M54 2.2l engine does not have post cat 02 sensors although the ETK indicated 4. There are only 2 x O2 sensors for each bank before the cat.

racing dynamic does not have anything for the z4, spoke to amos from Juz4car and he said someone changed b4 FOR HIS 330, thought of asking any bros from forum had done it as mod is quite X, do not wan to waste $$$

New Sport Headers for E46 325/330i and E85 Z4

M54_Manifolds.jpg

The new Racing Dynamics Sport Exhaust Manifolds for the latest M54 powered cars is now in stock.

This unit was designed specifically for the E46 330i, but will also fit the 325i, the 530i (both E39 and E60), the X5 3.0i, as well as all Z4 models.

Made out of 2mm thick stainless steel, the Racing Dynamics Manifold tops the charts as far as performance gains are concerned, and it was dyno tested as delivering a whopping 18HP to the 3.0 liter M54 motor.

If matched with the appropriate Engine Management Software, the power gain is bumped to a hefty +34HP.

The Sport Headers are for competition use only and feature 4 lambda probe attachments to retain the OE configuration of pre and post catalytic converter readings.

i'm on hiop headers now. it's good. throttle response is much quicker and the butt dyno says 15-20bhp increase. downsides are that like aftermarket mufflers, there'll be a certain rpm where some baffling is heard, and overall sound level of your exhaust is much louder, as the precats actually act as a muffler too.

however, the hiop headers are actually M52TU headers, with an extension downpipe to connect to the rest of your exhaust pipe. Hiop does have a M54 header which takes into account that the M54 has 2 additional precats, but it's not in production. therefore the M52TU set is different and needs the 2nd part of the downpipe to connect the exhaust flow up, which is also provided by hiop.

the RD one is one single piece and neater, but the lambda sensor opening is a little lower down the stream. it's actually OE from Hiop, but looks neater overall. just like RD's ecu map is actually a Hiop program.

there's yet another option, Hotbits. It's actually a replica hiop, selling at below $500. however since it's a M52TU replica, you need to go fong kim or somewhere to create pipes to connect the end of the header to your exhaust pipe. however if your car is running high compression or FI, then there's a possibility they will crack at the flanges.

the extractor mod will be somewhat meaningless if you do not decat, and also change your muffler, as the restriction is still there. the gas will flow as fast as the slowest part of your exhaust system.

you will still get about 15bhp gains, but if you clear up your exhaust straight through totally, you will gain 20-30bhp in total. the precats are actually very good cat converters, and the moment you remove them, your car will stink like hell. untreated exhaust gases are actually extremely smelly. but just like any mods, the gains always come with downsides. but as for me, i'm very happy with the extractor mod.

Bro,

Have u installed the header ? It seems to be for LHD leh... The cyc 1-3 will hit the steering column ?

Looks like it's meant for track use cos the header is very long, any loss in low end torque for u ?

If i change extractor w/o removing the mid cat, will there still be the petrol smell and wat do u think is the increase in HP, thanks

i think there wouldnt really be petrol smell if you leave your cats in.

however, my opinion is that if you intend to leave one set of cats in your system, you're better off just removing your mid cats and replacing it with a straight pipe. that'll cost like $300 at the most.

thats a simpler and lower cost of parts and labour than changing out your headers and then still leaving your mid cats in.

however the plus point is that it's not easily detectable and you'll probably pass your inspection or surprise road blocks with no problems.

bhp gains? i'm not sure. but an educated guesstimate will be anything up to 10bhp i reckon.

anybody who does exhaust mods should do similar intake mods to free up the flow generally in the whole system.
