Engine Valve seal change and Top over haul differences - engine oil leak & white smok

Dear all,
Just to share what I did for my own car.

At mileage of estimated 140,000 KM, my car was leaking engine oil badly and emits a huge amount of white smoke while driving on the road.
Please note that this is a common problem for many BMWs.

This was when I did my 1st valve seal change.

At mileage of estimated 264,000 ++ KM, I did my 2nd valve seal change.
After the valve seal change, my car is completely normal again and very nice to drive.
Therefore I estimate that the 16 engine valve seals can usually last around 100,000 to 120,000 KM before they are worn off and starts to leak engine oil.

With my own car, I have successfully solved the leaking engine oil and white smoke problem without the need to do a top overhaul at all.

I am a heavy user of my car and my mileage is rocket high now pushing to 300,000 KM soon. I believe the car, engine and gear box should be able to last up to 400,000 KM before I need to overhaul engine or gear box.

Why U should solve the engine oil and white smoke problem?
Because by topping up engine oil non stop actually cost me more in the long run than the repair cost, it is also against LTA regulations to emit white smoke while driving on the road.
Ur car also smells damn bad and harms UR health.

So want is the difference between top over haul and valve seal change?

---Top over haul---
-Top set (all gaskets and a lot of work to be done)
-Grand valve
-Engine valves
-Takes 3 days to complete the job
- double the labour cost and price to do

Vs

---Valve seal change---
-Engine gasket
-Engine valves
-Half a day to compete the job

If you have a engine oil leakage and white smoke problem, Most workshop will recommend you to do a top overhaul as a standard Practise and preventive measures for your engine. They believe by just doing the valve seal change alone is not enough and the other parts might soon wear off thus U need to go back and open up your engine again.

I fully respect the recommendations and the Practise of the workshops.
Just that given a choice, I would choose just to change only the current damaged part due to wear and tear first. My car has been a successfully example of 2 valve seal change at intervals of more than 100,000 KM and still going strong.
I frequently drive up to KL, Penang, Ipoh and even Thailand.

To be fair, I am taking a risk of having to do a top overhaul after changing the engine valve seals and end up opening up my engine twice and incurred more cost to repair.

After reading my post, hope u all can better decide how you want to maintain ur ride.
