LL-04 recommendation is 5w-30. What is too thin?

With turbo engine good to use a little thicker oil like 5W/40 or 10W/50.
Sorry to bust your old skool methodology.

Under BMW efficient dynamic, all these viscocity FAIL.

It should be 5-30. Even ///M5 is using 5-30.

Re: Engine oil to be use for F10

Use the specs to gauge better. Light 5w40 and heavy 5W30 can overlap in viscosity.

IMHO - Cst should be around ~12.2 @100c (heavier end of 5w30) for current engines. I think its better thinner @40c so during startup it flows faster e.g 70-75@40c .......... personally I use something at 13.5@100c (0w40) and it did help keep the engine slightly cooler (3-4 degrees) in certain traffic situations.

sorry guys....not famili with this. I recall in my previous E60 523i the guy at BVO used a thicker type of oil, suposedly better for the engine but i found it mkes the engine rev quite 'heavy' and feel gear change not so smooth. I then switched to a thinner type of engine oil and it was very good and ever since stick to it.

changed to f10 520 recently. I am a bit confused wiht all these comments about 0W or 5w or 30 or 40.Can someone explain?

also, wouldn't PML know what's the best engine oil to use?

"also, wouldn't PML know what's the best engine oil to use?" - Can someone comment?

Motor Oil 101 - Bob is the Oil Guy

instead of totally relying on the "professional", its always good to have a little knowledge and decide for yourself.
end of the day, its always good to know more about the machine your operating on daily.

Castrol Edge with Titanium better 5W-30 or Castrol Edge with Syntec better?

But if 0W-40 is better than gotta stick back to Mobil 1. I tot of try castrol this time round.

Both are unsuitable. HTHS and cst@100c too low.

Try Castrol edge 0w-30 European formula.

Hearsay Pennzoil ultra is good.

Re: Engine oil to be use for F10

Anyone buy from mxtrading?

So it's just castrol edge right? I check castrol singapore website they do not have castrol edge with titanium and syntec. Any idea where these 2 products are from?

Also the website do not have 0-30 on their castrol edge list. Where can I get the 0-30?

Tks...
