Dear folks, my 320i has travelled around 3000km and was thinking of changing engine oil to hopefully maintain a long engine life-span. Appreciate any good recommendation of engine oil to use and where to do so? Any idea what brand PML uses when I go for 12000km servicing? Thanks! :)

I think PML is using the Castrol Long Life for our engine oil. I did my in between oil changes at Espace using Elf Fully Synthetic. Its ok so far for me though. Yup its good to do regular oil changes. :)

mobil 1 0w-40 or castrol edge should keep your engine happy for a long time to come... change at BVO sing ming it takes only 20 minutes, suggest u call them b4 you go.....

Is it? never heard yet leh, Petronas good anot? Doesnt sound good leh hahaha anyways if PML certify it to be good, if anything happens, we can claim them lor, no choice anyways. But should be alright one la. If they certify it to be ok, they are gonna run tests, etc to ensure that it is ok for use. If not they will face alot of warranty claims also and not to their advantage man. No worries. Hmm what do they change on the 12000km service?

Soh des ne! Hmmz I tot castrol is better huh? Anyways I just make sure I change my oil regularly and my engine should work just fine.

1 to 2 decades back, my dad had a Datsun Pickup which was more than a decade old, used it to run errands and carry stuff for our farm in Lim Chu Kang. He changed the oil once every 2 to 3 yrs hahaha and used f***ed up mineral oil. The engine was running fine and didnt give much problems at all. hahaha that was how sturdy vehicles were made then.....

No lah!! Juz kidding u leh. 2 what i understand, castrol intend to sponsor d lube oil. However, petronas tell them all or nothing. Petronas is a big sponsor. If u look back @ william BMW days, Castrol only supplied d lube oil. Petrobras sponsor d fuel.

I m not sure how good or bad is Petronas. However, its top grade oil, Syntium, uses PAO base stock. Tis oil is not cheap. It is about RM200 4 4L.

In d good old days, engine is made from cast iron. So veri solid. Nowaday, it is made from Alloy.

Re: Engine oil for E90 320i..

Hi all,

I have been reading many posts/threads in this forum on E90 320i servicing. When I bought the car 1 yr 9 mths back, ( my mileage is about 20k km, I am not a cheong ster so my mileage is pretty low, whoever want to buy my car can contact me :D)
was told by the salesman & service engineer that I only need to go for 1st servivcing when the car have clocked 25k km but I have read many of you who changed yr engine oil at 5k or 12k.. Is this really necessary? I understand the new beemer will give warning in the dashboard & that is a sign whereby something is wrong with yr beemer & u need to send it to the workshop. So I am wondering, should I just wait for the light to give warning/indication for servicing or I should really just send in before 25k is up... Hmmmm...I am even thinking of not sending the car to PML & go outside workshop like BVO that most of you recommended.. Any one of you have opted not to go PML 4 yr servicing since you bought the car brand new? Will this void your warranty with PML? Million thanks

In our kind of weather (hi temp & hi humidity), oil engine will lose its effectiveness if u r talking about 20k km. If u change ur ka every 3/5 yrs, don't bother to change engine oil in btw. If u think that it is necessary 2 change, u could go back 2 PML if u r worry about warranty. Service engineer will tell u no need. But as customer, u could insist.

Based on what i know, d indicator has existed since E30 in d 80s (guys, correct me if i m wrong). So, it is not something new.
