Engine finds trouble starting

Just recently having this problem...

Cold start, okie...

After a drive, stop for about 45mins to 1hour, need to depress the start button for about 4-5seconds before the engine can fire up... like not enough battery... if i let go of the start button, the engine doesnt start... weird...

remember the old E36 gave me this problem too... it was the starter motor or fuel pump from what i recall... but it was after many years...

bringing it in to PML to have a check...

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

Might be battery or alternator related? Keep us updated :)

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

finally hammered them hard enough to get me a loaner car just to have them resolve it... will be about a week more before i know...

i was requested to be patient... :)
to be fair to them, i sent the car in for oil service on 21 Sep... collected the car and still the problem exist... i am still rather patient...

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

From sep 21 till now, damned patient.

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

how to check the battery condition ? will the obc show warning before battery went completely dead ? unable to start is the last thing i want to experience :(

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

on the e36 it was the fuel pressure regulator

bro, max 2.5 to 3 years better change before the batt dies on you. if you ICEd your ride, the batt wil die off faster.

Reminds me of the same problem a friend had. But his car in question is the very old honda Civic EH series. Cold start always ok, when engine warm cannot start. The ECU may have up the lorry. He replaced the ECU and problem solved immediately. You may wanna get PML to look at the ECU of your car.

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

when i collected my 2nd hand 523, 05 dec, i also find the engine start sound abit weak. so....play safe thought maybe change a new battery (no idea previous history ma).

after changing, the weak engine start persist. esp when the car was parked overnight and 1st start in the morning. funny that it will start together with the aircon on automatically.

however, if drive a while, stop car, come back within 30 mins, restart, the aircon will not be on automatically. then the starting sound very strong.

not sure if the AC can be prog to be off when starting up the car. advise?

I also experiencing the same thingy except the weak start.
After long parking hour or overnight parking, start car and blower
automatically on, however A/C not on if i remember to OFF it before stopping engine.
Check manual but to no result.
Is it a default?

Yup batt is under warranty. My batt died on me at the 2.9 yrs mark .. 1 month b4 warranty expire. Batt was changed FOC. Heng ar ......... Must give it to PML this time round.

Re: Engine finds trouble starting

yes my battery was replaced last week 1 month before the warranty expires. FOC as well. I have the long start in the morning. you can disable the Aircon by depressing the start button twice without stepping on the brake pedal. turn the fan control anticlockwise till the blower stops, after that you can start the car without the aircon. However this will not help the long crank in the morning. My guess is the fuel pump or the injectors are without sufficient pressure in the morning. Interestingly the issue was not there when the car was new or about 2 years old. Just completed a vehicle check at pml everything was fine with the car. So do not really know if it is such a big deal after all.

the fault for my problem lies in the fuel injector... one of them... it was leaking... now replaced and the engine fires up nicely after the stop for awhile...
